October Construction Report This report is intended to provide motorists with information on active construction projects on the Kansas Turnpike. Each update is listed below. Completion dates listed are weather permitting. I encourage travelers to drive with caution in work zones and to check for construction updates at http://www.kandrive.org , subscribe to KTA alerts, follow the Kansas Turnpike on Twitter, and watch for information on the KTA’s digital message boards. To aid in KTA’s communication efforts on potential impacts to traffic, 16 additional digital message signs have been installed giving us 43 boards total. These digital message signs allow us to get more current information out to the traveling public. ~ David Jacobson, P.E., KTA Director of Engineering Ka nsas Avenue Bridge (Leavenworth County, MP 221) Scheduled completion: late November 2015, weather permitting Project Manager: Shannon Moore, P.E. Work continues on the Kansas Avenue Bridge reconstruction with the contractor preparing to construct the concrete deck. The project will continue to require lane drops at various times and locations. Travelers should expect lane drops, construction activity near traffic and construction vehicles entering and exiting traffic in the work zone. Pavement resurfacing in Wichita area (MP 27-50.8) Scheduled completion: late September 2015, weather permitting Project Manager: Mark Roberts, E.T. The pavement-resurfacing project in the Wichita area from the east Wichita/Kellogg toll plaza to near the Belle Plaine service area (MM 27-50.8) is nearly complete. While actual paving was finished last week, crews will be painting at the Kellogg, K-15 and south Wichita toll plazas yet this month. Ea st Kellogg/Wichita Construction officially began in mid-August to rebuild East Kellogg/US 54 from the Turnpike's Kellogg toll plaza east to K-96. The first segment of the multi-year project is from the Turnpike's Kellogg toll plaza east to Greenwich road. This segment includes a new Webb Road interchange and will eventually affect Turnpike traffic to Kellogg. We will keep travelers informed as work progresses. Motorists can also visit www.eastkelloggimprovements.com for updates as well. 9401 E Kellogg Drive l Wichita, Kansas 67207-1804 O: (316) 682-4537 l F: (316) 682-1201 l www.ksturnpike.com A Look Ahead With most of the 2015 projects finished or nearing completion, KTA engineers are working on projects that will occur in coming years. Some of the projects you can expect to start in 2016 are: • Drainage improvements (MM 101, 105, 116, 118) • K-32 Bridge Reconstruction (MM 206.345) • Interchange and Ramp Improvements (MM 110.820; Flint Hills Cattle Pens) • Arkansas River Bridge Replacement – South Bound (MM 45) Maintenance projects, system wide Ongoing The KTA maintenance crews work hard to ensure a smooth ride for customers. You may encounter them performing routine maintenance along the 236-mile roadway. These less time- intensive projects normally do not cause traffic delays and are communicated only through social media and roadway signage. However, travelers should drive cautiously in all work zones. .
