Camp Community Arts (CCA) of Civic Arts Education provides Summer, Winter, and Spring art camps for youth, ages 5-14. CCA offers hands-on arts learning, field trips, and swimming in a supportive community setting. Our goal? To help young people create, build relationships, and express themselves. Summer 2016 CCA’s summer youth art Camps include a variety of classes with talented teaching artists, plus recreational swim days and creative nature-inspired field trips to regional parks, museums, botanical gardens, and more. We explore the wonderful world of four legged creatures and the like through step-by-step instruction. Art students gain the skill and confidence to move through several species on earth, wind and sea. You provide the passion to draw, we'll do the rest. Camp 2 - Creature/ Monster Drawing Don't be scared—there’s nothing crawling from under the desks but our imaginations and creativity. This camp will allow for eager artists to learn basic fundamentals in drawing anything from Dragons, Griffins, Zombies, popular culture movie Creatures, etc. The foundation is learning how to draw people and animals through Gesture, Anatomy and Technique (G.C.A.T). Let's unfold a creepy art world together in this fun and not so scary camp! Camp 3 - Beginning Anime/ Manga Are you interested in Japanese anime/manga cartooning? Learn step by step to draw Japanese style cartooning through basic techniques and instruction. The camp will allow students to explore basic fundamentals in drawing popular Anime characters, elements of cartooning, studying film and art projects. The goal is to have fun drawing and gain new art skills through the popular culture of Japanese style cartooning. Camp 4 - Intermediate Manga Continue your journey into the Japanese art of anime/manga by taking your characters and stories to the next level. This class will focus on elements of graphic design, character and creature development, basic anatomy, poses, expressive and gestural drawing through Gesture, Construction, Anatomy & Technique ( GCAT) storyboarding, game development and more. This class is for students that took the beginning Anime/ Manga class and who are at an intermediate/ advanced level with strong drawing and composition skills. 2 Painting Teaching Artist: Brittany Zagoria Offered during Camps 1, 2, 3, and 4 Classes offered to Ages 5-7; 8-10; 11-14 Course overview: Camp 1: Intro to Painting: Watercolor Students are taught watercolor techniques such as wet on wet, dry brush, scrubbing, layering, and controlled wash through a variety of painting projects. They will work both from observation and photo references, completing a still life and animal portrait, among others. Students will learn about color theory, value, and composition through a variety of exercises and lectures, and learn a bit of art history by being introduced to many influential artists along the way! Camp 2: Intro to Painting: Acrylic Painting Students are introduced to the basics of acrylic painting; they will learn how to use mediums, glazing techniques, and creating layers through extended projects. They will work with pattern, texture, and on a variety of surfaces such as canvas, panel, and paper. We will be looking at artists throughout history to gain insight into different ways of painting, from realism to abstraction. Camp 3: 3D Painting Students will explore painting onto 3D surfaces. They will paint onto clay and textured materials to create a 3D painting and also design and paint their own pop-up book by the end. Camp 4: Portrait Painting Students will learn how to paint a portrait from scratch- creating a self-portrait and pet portrait. They will be taught how to draw each feature of the face- breaking it down into easy to understand shapes, and learn tricks on how to catch a specific person’s likeness. They will witness how different artists throughout history approached painting people, and by the end of class, choose to create a portrait in that style’s likeness. Murals & Large Scale Narrative Painting Teaching Artist: Grace Chen Offered during Camps 2, 3, and 4 Classes offered to Ages 5-7; 8-10; 11-14 3 Course overview: Camp 2: Pictures As Stories Images aren’t static: they tell us stories about places, people and eras. In this class, students will draw on both personal experience and fiction to explore how setting, characters and compositional techniques can be used to create narrative pictures. By the end of the class, we will work together to tell a story through a series of related, collaborative paintings. Camp 3: Collaborations! Producing artwork in collaboration with others is often a surprising, exciting and liberating experience. While we might give up some control over the outcome, we can discover a lot about our own artistic process, and what may be shared or unique about it. Over the course of this class, we will play, experiment and learn together through a series of projects and games. Camp 4: Mural Arts Murals are an art form that is deeply rooted in place and community. Drawing on the local landscape around us, as well as students’ personal experiences, we will explore how we can make art that reflects its location in the world. Working together as we paint, we will create a collaborative mural that represents the shared values and aspirations of the class. DIGITAL ARTS Digital Imaging with Illustrator Teaching Artist: Monico Lares Jacobo Class offered during Camps 1, 2, 3, and 4 Classes offered to Ages 8-10; 11-14 Course Overview: Camp 1: Digital Arts - Mandala Creation with Illustrator Explore the limitless possibilities of digital imaging by learning the basics of the Illustrator program in order to create your own eye-catching professional designs. We will begin with a run-through of the primary tools of illustrator, color theory, and simple shape manipulations. With these primary tools, we will be creating our own mandala, inspired by your imagination. We will start with a rough pencil sketch that will be scanned into the program and traced over using the tools we learn throughout the course to complete a beautiful design worthy of mom’s fridge or any professional art studio! 4 Camp 2: Digital Arts - Creation of a New World with Illustrator Use your imagination and the tools and theories discussed in our last class to create your own world by using and learning a new media. We will revisit the tools taught in the first course, in addition to many more. We will learn line manipulation and the ability to incorporate other techniques while we dive into creating a landscape that will rely on your imagination and creativity. Be the ultimate architect in building a world you desire, filled with everything you love and enjoy. Stop Motion Animation / Claymation Camp 3: Digital Arts – Claymation: Bringing Clay to Life Bring a character to life with stop-motion animation. During this week, you will be creating and designing your own character with clay. We will create a story for your character and practice how to create precise stop-motion animation. In this class, you will learn techniques used in films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Paranorman. The final product will be a video of your character fulfilling the path you have created for it. Camp 4: Digital Arts - Claymation: Clay Character Animation and Story Creation Delve deeper into the creation of clay figures and the development of a strong backstory by learning more techniques for claymation. These techniques will enhance your ability to create a more detail-oriented story within stop-motion animation. Not only will we expand our storyboards, but we will also incorporate props for our characters to interact with. The end result will be a film reflective of your growing talents as an animator. Garage Band Recording & Music Studio Basics Teaching Artist: John Waller Class offered during Camps 1, 2, 3, and 4 Classes offered to Ages 8-10; 11-14 Course Overview: Course Overview: We’ll learn basic sound recording techniques and production while we have fun developing audio projects using Garageband software. We will be doing voice overs, instrument recording with live percussion, keyboards, guitar and bass while we produce audio tracks using a mixer and add effects. Makey Makey Kits – Electronic Music Studio Teaching Artist: Alex Jacobius Class offered during Camps 1, 2, 3, and 4 Classes offered to Ages 8-10; 11-14 5 Course Overview: Explore music this summer! Using Makey Makey Kits, we'll learn how to turn drawings, household objects, and even food into electronic musical instruments.
