We hope that by the time you read this you will have had a smooth arrival to your camping pitch, that the weather is agreeable, and that you are looking forward to some live music & comedy! Our intent with Base Camp Plus was always to design an event that you can feel safe at, that we are comfortable putting on, but also one where you can party (should you want to!). Base Camp Plus has always been sold as socially distanced – an event that would fit within Step 3 restrictions. At certain times over the last 4 months this strategy has gone from seeming sensible, to seeming too conservative, to seeming still too risky, and everything in-between and back again… but with the recent increases in the daily COVID case numbers the balance seems about right. We have some information regarding specific COVID mitigations – these are contained in an additional sheet that accompanies this programme. For everyone’s safety we expect our guests to abide by these points. Please read carefully and understand that they may be subject to revision over the weekend. We are excited to be seeing you all again after what we have all been through. Throw into the mix a little punk, jazz, reggae and ska and you have one of the most danceable bands on this or any other planet. THE LOUNGE SOCIETY Legend has it that Deer Shed was the first ever festival attended by Archie Dewis, the drummer of Yorkshire’s most exciting new post-punk band, The Lounge Society. Now, Cameron and his bandmates will be playing the Main Stage at Base Camp Plus. How cool is that? This time last year, The Lounge Society were preparing to release their debut single, ‘Generation Game’, a politically charged modern polemic produced by the rather iconic Dan Carey and released on his label, Speedy Wunderground. If you’re not familiar with Dan’s work, well, you are, because he’s worked on records for the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen, Kae Tempest, Boxed In, Warmduscher, Black Midi, Squid, Fontaines D.C. and loads more. The Lounge Society’s debut EP, Silk for the Starving, was released on 18 June 2021 to rave reviews, and we reckon this could be a favourite new band for many Deer Shedders. 3 FRIDAY MUSIC MAIN STAGE, FRIDAY 9.45–10.55pm PORRIDGE RADIO Beginning as Dana Margolin’s sadcore bedroom project, Porridge Radio developed into an idiosyncratic post-punk four-piece after she moved to Brighton, who knot together Margolin’s furious emotional outpourings with beautiful pop melodies. After a series of demos, and the growing legend of their intense live shows, Rice, Pasta and Other Fillers, was released in 2016. Simon’s songwriting is witty and emotional in equal measures and we absolutely loved the album. Accordingly, we asked Simon if he fancied a slot on the Acorn Stage, and he agreed! His new album is due for release in the near future and it’ll be a joy to hear songs both old and new during his first time on the other side of the barrier at Deer Shed. MAIN STAGE, SATURDAY 6.40–7.30pm BIG JOANIE Big Joanie is a London-based three-piece formed in the summer of 2013, and another band we had booked in for Deer Shed 11.
