VAL DI FIEMME – TRENTINO WINTER 2013-14 Val di Fiemme, 110 km of ski slopes among the world’s most beautiful mountains Val di Fiemme is surrounded by mountain chains of rare beauty, like the Latemar peaks, declared “World Natural Heritage Site” by Unesco. The Ski Center Latemar naturalistic paradise includes 50 km of ski slopes connecting Pampeago, Predazzo and Obereggen. Bellamonte-Alpe Lusia ski slopes caress the boundaries of Parco Naturale di Paneveggio, one of the protected environments which favoured the decision of Unesco to add the Dolomites in its list of worthy sites. The ski slopes at Passo Rolle unfold before the majestic Pale di S. Martino. The sight from the Alpe Cermis skiing area, which includes the long Olimpia track (7,5 km), is one of the most enchanting landscapes in the Dolomites. A number of panoramic views of the famous calcareous mountains, that reflect the colourful shades of dawn and sunset, can be admired from Passo Lavazé-Oclini, where downhill and cross-country skiing merge together. THE FIVE VAL DI FIEMME-OBEREGGEN SKI AREAS 1- SKI CENTER LATEMAR It’s the largest skiing circuit in the Val di Fiemme-Obereggen area. This skiing zone, set at the foot of the Latemar Dolomite group, criss-crosses the boundary between Trentino and South Tyrol. Obereggen, Pampeago and Predazzo are served by 18 ultra-modern ski lifts assuring skiers’ transfer from 1550 to 2500 mt. of altitude. In total: 45 km of fantastic slopes. In winter, the Ski Center Latemar offers a large variety of perfectly prepared ski sloped, the snow is guaranteed, the panorama is extraordinary with its breathtaking landscapes and you can enjoy a very tasty cuisine, as well as several opportunities of spending the afternoon in 10 typical mountain huts with music and entertainment. Entertainment goes on also in the evening. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 7 to 10 pm, the pistes are lit up for skiing or sleighing by night. Don’t miss the chance of combining the pleasure for sport with the sound of après-ski music (all included in the weekly or seasonal ski pass). Snowboarding thrill and excitement are assured at the snow park, featuring three jumps, three rails and a 80 mt. halfpipe. In addition, the Alpine Coaster Gardoné : it's an one-track sledge that lets you drive along one kilometer of jumps, parabolic curves, bumps and breath-taking turns in complete safety and in touch with the unpolluted nature of the woods of Latemàr. You can reach this game for adults and children from Predazzo, using the modern cableway Predazzo-Gardoné, at more than 1.650 metres of altitude. The Obereggen sled slope was enlarged and improved and was provided, two years ago, with a pedestrian route. News: The slope “Agnello” will be transformed into an art gallery on the snow. Four of the ten masterpieces installed in the art park RespirArt Pampeago can be watched on Agnello's main slope and on its variance. One of these pieces of art was created by one of the worldwide most famous artist: Mr. Hidetoshi Nagasawa (www.respirart.com). Cult ski slopes : The two-year-old “ Torre di Pisa ” slope – named after the homonymous Latemar peak, one of the most attractive hiking destinations – had wide appeal . The ski slope winds its way one and a half km down from the arrival of the Gardoné-Passo Feudo chair lift, covering a 459-metre-long difference in altitude (max gradient: 59%; min gradient: 10%; max width: 60 mt.; min width: 20 mt.). The most renowned slopes are Cinque Nazioni , on the side of Predazzo, and Agnello in Pampeago (a 2600-metre-long black slope, with a 420-metre difference in height), usually the stage for many important competitions. Highly prized is the most difficult ski slope in Pampeago, Pala di Santa . Two slopes with time-keeping devices are also available (Campanil and Tresca di Pampeago). Access from: Predazzo, Pampeago, Obereggen. 2- ALPE CERMIS You can reach Alpe Cermis easily from Cavalese town centre. This skiing area spreads over the side of the Lagorai chain. A ski slopes network of various difficulty levels radiates from the extraordinary landscape of Cima Paion (2200 mt.) down to the valley bottom (800 mt.). The area includes a very long slope called “Olimpia” (7,5 km), recently widened and served by two modern cableways. Alpe Cermis is a real paradise for children, who can rely on two equipped areas for playing and learning how to ski. At Dosso dei Larici there are a fun park in the snow, called “Cermislandia” (with moving walkway and an area for young skiers) and the kindergarten. In Cermis (near Eurotel) there is a school camp, served by the ski-lift. And for the youngest, the amusing “Via del Bosco” introduces children to nature through games and pictures peeping out at the sides of a gently ski slope. As the whole area faces north, the snow coverage is guaranteed throughout the winter season. News : The new ski slope called Carlo Donei, 400 mt, medium difficulty (red), will be open. It is a stretch of the ski slope Costabella. Moreover, as done during last winter's season, the ski slope Olimpia 3 will be lighted for the night skiing (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday). Besides the chance of skiing under the stars, the lighting allows people to dine in Rifugio Dosso dei Larici and to go back home by skiing down to valley. Cult slope: The slope Olimpia, the longest in the Dolomites, with its breathtaking 7,5 km descent from Paion (2200 mt. of altitude). It is served by two cableways. Artificial snowguns ensure the ideal skiing conditions throughout the winter season. Access from : Cavalese town centre (cableway) or lift station at valley bottom (cableway). Web: www.alpecermis.it 3- BELLAMONTE - ALPE LUSIA Surrounded by Pale di San Martino, with an amazing view above the whole Val di Fiemme, this area covers the fields used for the summer mountain pastures: 25 km of wide ski slopes, ranging from tracks for beginners to highly demanding slopes. Among the mountain malgas and huts, rearranged into cosy mountain refuges, there is “Ciamp de le Strie”, with inside setting inspired to the valley legends. The two parks for snowboarding, with jump and boarder-cross tracks, are also suitable for children. Close to Bellamonte chair-lift station, near the restaurant El Zirmo, there is a protected area for young skiers with the support of a moving walkway. Furthermore, this is the only ski area where all facilities are equipped for disabled guests (access to lift facilities, ski pass offices, and even wheelchairs available in some mountain huts). The association “Sportabili” of Predazzo is actually based in this area (www.sportabili.org ). There are also n ew snow fun park for baby skiers in Castelir, with moving walkways, inflatables, small gymkhanas and jumps. For all ski touring lovers : ski bus transfers to Valles and San Pellegrino passes. News : A blue ski slope “Dolomitica” will be at your disposal. It's 800 metres long. Furthermore for all families, the new ski-kindergarten LA TANA DEGLI GNOMI will be open at Castelir. Cult ski slopes : the panoramic “Lasté” slope, 2,8 km long, that starts from 2,320 mt. of altitude. 300 mt. drop. Average difference in height: 17%. Morea Snow Park : 13 American Tables, 12 Boxes, 3 Rails, 4 Wood boxes, 1 Stairway, 2 Picnic tables, 2 Walls, 10 Jumps. The Morea Snowpark is recommended for people who want to move the first steps in the freestyle field: the kickers aren't that huge and the place is comfortable and calm. The same is for the border-cross trail. Thanks to its particular setting, the park allows the skiers to face the facilities one after the other: among kicks and boxes, free-stylers can reach 12 exercises without stopping. Very appreciated is the Wood line. Access from : Bellamonte (Predazzo, road to Passo Rolle) and Moena lift facilities. Web: www.bellamonteski.it 4- PASSO LAVAZÉ - PASSO OCLINI This plateau is surrounded by the majestic outlines of Catinaccio and Latemar, where downhill and cross-country skiing coexist. The five lift facilities in the Oclini area, at the foot of Corno Bianco and Corno Nero, are easily reachable from the road. The area also features 80 km of cross- country skiing tracks (at altitude 1800 mt.), and a centre with changing rooms, showers and waxing service. The forest paths are suitable for cross-country skiing, Nordic walking or snowshoeing. The equipment rental is available on the spot, including cross-country ski suits. At Malga Varena school camp, children learn how to ski on a one-km ski slope served by the ski lift, which runs right beside an amusing snow park. Access from : road to Passo Lavazé, from Cavalese to Val d’Ega, in South Tyrol. 5- PASSO ROLLE There is one of the most enchanting landscapes. The five lift facilities at the foot of Cimon della Pala take skiers up to eleven different ski slopes. The best known one is the black “Paradiso”, a renowned stage for international competitions. High altitude and artificial snow coverage ensure a long skiing season. Snowboarders can practice at the Rolle Railz Park, with its 12 rails and 4 jumps. A 5-km ring among snow-covered pastures and woods is dedicated to cross-country skiers. Highly prized is the walk in the snow from Malga Venegia to Baita Segantini, at the foot of the Pale di San Martino. The Scuola Alpina Guardia di Finanza, which trains the staff for the ski patrol and mountain rescue, has its headquarters at Passo Rolle.
