In the 1970s, Kroll found a game in Japan by the Agatsuma toy company called Hungry Game. By 1978, Kroll had brought the game to America and kids all across the country were trying to get their Hungry Hungry Hippos to eat a chaotic swirl of marbles. ~Shut-the-Box was played for 200 years by the French fisherman of Normandy before becoming popular in southern England. The “Box” is a tray showing the numbers 1–9. Dice are rolled in the tray, and each time a number is rolled, that number is covered up. A player’s turn ends when the numbers rolled on the dice can no longer cover any numbers in the tray. The remaining numbers are tallied to give you a score. Resident Spotlight Neshaminy Manor Resident Tom “Crazy Legs”Davis Tommy “Crazy Legs” Davis is a resident on A2 here Neshaminy Manor. One very interesting aspect of his life is that he was once a contributing member of the original Bandstand dancers. He has fond memories of being a regular dancer from 1955 until he graduated from Roxborough High in 1959. He was recruited after befriending Dick Clark after he was called down from the audience to the stage, from there he then became a regular, and was dubbed with the moniker “Crazy Legs”. His Crazy legs danced the most popular dances of the time such as the Jitterbug, the Stroll, the Twist, Swing, Lindy, the rock-n-roll, Boogie-woogie or Bop. His most memorable dance was with the one and only “Patti Page”. And also Rosemary Clooney. He would leave Roxborough High at 2:15, take the bus, then hop the El to the 4548 Market Street Bandstand studio where he would perform three to five days a week.
