Its mission is to make a contribution towards the cultural development of the student corps and the cultural enrichment of the community by means of choral singing. The Camerata also endeavours to promote a worthy image of the University of Pretoria through striving towards the highest possible artistic standards and by upholding a code of conduct that meets the highest requirements of companionship. The Camerata operates under the auspices of the Department of UP Arts. The conductors, Adolf Theron, Willem van Tonder, Prof Petru Gräbe, Prof Johann van der Sandt, Christo Burger and currently the very accomplished Michael Barrett, have constantly upheld high artistic values. The Camerata currently consists of 76 members. The choir has won many national and international choir competitions, and has over the years, released many award winning albums. In July 2017, the Camerata will perform in Spain as one of 24 invited choirs at the world largest conference for choirs, namely the World Choral Symposium.
