June 2013. 2 Final Program The 13th European Congress of Psychology Welcome to the 13th European Congress of Psychology (ECP 2013), held under the auspices of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA). The congress is organized by the Swedish Psychological Association. ECP 2013 is a scientific congress where new research is being presented and discussed among scientists and practitioners from Europe and the rest of the world. The conference is held every second year in Europe. Our aim is to offer a program of interest to scholars as well as practitioners, founded upon research results as well as evidence from the field. Our efforts should provide an excellent opportunity for participants to interact, by exchanging and debating new directions in the broad area of psychology. We are delighted to welcome you to Stockholm, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. The city is built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges. The beautiful buildings, the greenery, the fresh air and the proximity to the water are distinctive traits of this city. The Royal National City Park, (the first National City Park in the world), is a green space that breathes for the city, and a constant presence in the crush of the city. With its 750 year history and rich cultural life, Stockholm offers a wide selection of world-class museums and attractions. Most of the city’s attractions can be reached on foot, and there’s a good chance of experiencing a lot of things in a short time. Experience big-city life, the history of civilization and natural scenery, all in the course of the same day. Public transportation runs smoothly and usually on time, and our Professional Congress Organizer is renowned for excellent presentations and experiences. Swedes are welcoming to visitors and most residents speak English. These are some of the reasons why Stockholm is among the five most popular international conference and convention cities in the world, according to recent rankings by the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA). We have put much effort into making this an exciting and interesting congress and we hope you will agree with us. I would also like to thank all people involved in the making of this congress. There has been a lot of hard work and long hours and now it’s going to be fantastic to reap the fruits of all our efforts. Lars Ahlin, President Välkommen! Welcome! I am very pleased to see that so many psychologists from Europe as well as other parts of the world are attending this conference and are contributing to the scientific programme. I am particularly pleased to see an increasing number of participants from remote continents in spite of global economic hardship. Since the launch in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 1989, the European Congress of Psychology has been the place to meet European psychologists and learn about advances in theory and research as well as educational and professional developments in Europe. But over the years the Congress Prof. Dr. Robert A. Roe has become a global meeting place, where students, scholars and professionals from all parts of the President of the world share knowledge and experiences. I note with pride and satisfaction that this 13th Congress European Federation has contributors from all over the world and a programme that covers all areas of contemporary of Psychologists psychology! Associations One of the attractive features of the European Congress of Psychology is the variety of Grasmarkt 105/18 venues, which allow participants to enjoy hugely different geographic, cultural and gastronomic B-1000 Brussels, environments, and to encounter people of different ethnic backgrounds speaking different Belgium languages. The 2013 congress will offers you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with Stockholm, Sweden’s capital, a city surrounded by water, with a long history of seafaring, trade and exchange. I am sure you will like the place and enjoy the hospitality and open-heartedness of its inhabitants. You will also appreciate meeting your colleagues from Sweden and other Scandinavian countries, who are known for their high competence and engagement. During the congress you will also have the opportunity to learn more about EFPA. EFPA was founded in 1981 to promote co-operation within European psychology and to increase the influence of psychologists in Europe. Meanwhile it has grown into a body that truly represents European psychology in the realms of education, science and profession. EFPA’s members are Psychological Associations of 35 European countries with over 300.000 individual members. EFPA has links with dozens of specialized European psychology associations, which cover a broad range of scholarly and professional domains; it also collaborates with European psychology teachers and students. EFPA is actively profiling and promoting psychology at the European level and is eager to contribute to efforts aiming to enhance the development and application of psychology worldwide. On behalf of EFPA I thank the Swedish Psychological Association for organizing the Congress and for providing an environment that promotes collegial exchange and collaboration, and makes all of us feel at home. I also thank the co-sponsors IAAP (International Association of Applied Psychology) and IUPsyS (International Union of Psychological Science) for their support in making this Congress a success.
