With the many new faces, the unit would greatly appreciate some new blood to step up and help lead with their fresh ideas and skills. Fort Lauderdale Fleet Week is just around the corner and as usual, many of you will be interested in going on the Ships YOU ARE WANTED... Tours at Port Everglades. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to come out to the Memorial Mass on February 18th to pay their last respects to our Founding Commandant, Bob Powers, and to those who sent donations and cards, as well. A special thanks goes out to Bob’s daughter Anne Marie, along with PC Bart Reno and VSO Vito Rao for their efforts to help Bob and his family in their time of need. From the fine ceremony at the Church to the military honors rendered at the grave, everything was perfect, and would have made the old man proud. RIP Bob! At our meeting on February 16th, with her family in attendance, we presented Britnney with a $500 bookstore scholarship. Also, a big oorah! goes out to everyone who came out that evening and to those who supported the scholarship program since the beginning. With all of your help, we are able to look forward to making award distributions in the upcoming semes- ters of the 2012-2013 scholastic year. Thank You again! Also, along with the Flag, came a beautiful certificate signed by the Company CO and 1st Sgt.. Thank you All again for your thoughtfulness and service to our Country and the Corps. Tours of the ships will be avail- able on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 26, 27, 28, and 29). Opening Ceremony: Acting Sgt. at Arms Ed O’Donnell posted the colors and led the Detachment in the Pledge of Allegiance, and then declared the meeting open for official business. Acting Chaplain Jim DuVall read the Opening Prayer. Roll Call: Elected Officers present: Cmdt Scott Vulpis, SVC Scott Egan, JPC Marty Winston and Past Commandant Ed Johnson. Guests: Our guest for the evening was Britney Kramer and the MCL Auxiliary Unit 1058. Applications For Membership: Marine Sam Biondo. Minutes of Previous Meeting: Copies of Minutes from the members meeting on January 16th, 2012 were passed around for the members review. A motion was made by PC Bart Reno to accept the minutes as presented and was seconded by JPC Ed Johnson and carried to a unanimous vote, none opposed. Paymaster Report: Copies of the Paymaster Report were posted for the members review. A motion was made by Bart Reno to accept the report as presented and was seconded by Tom Depretoro and carried to a unanimous vote, none opposed. Report of any Members or Family sick or in distress: Although, Gene Bredeck was present at the meeting, Cmdt.Vulpis reported that he was recently in the hospital during the time of the Isle RV Show and the day after he was released, he came out to volunteer for the event. Cmdt Vulpis also mentioned that Marine Bill Amos was still recovering from a stroke and Pat Doughtery was out with the flu. Report of Officers: VSO Vito Rao wanted to inform everyone who was seeking or is currently enrolled in VA Healthcare about the importance of signing up at My HealtheVet.com website where there are many advantages, such as safely collecting data from VA hospital records and filling prescriptions.
