JUNE-JulY 2016 Marilyn’s Musings The week-end of 11 th and 12 th June will see any number of street parties and cream teas around the country and commonwealth celebrating the official 90 th birthday of our earthly monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Whether or not you are a Royalist, you cannot help but stand in awe of this remarkable woman, the longest reign- ing British Monarch of all time, who at the age of 90, still works over 40 hours a week fulfilling her oath - “ I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the ser- vice of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” Until recently we have only seen glimpses of her, but the documentary ‘The Queen at 90’ narrated by Prince Charles, showing private home mov- ies, gave us a privileged insight into the woman who is not only our Mon- arch, but also a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We wish them all luck, health and endless happiness. Romantic it maybe - and why not !
