This has unfortunately affected our beloved sport of cricket. It has led to most of our staff working from home. While we appreciate the fact that they are at home, we stress the fact that they together with everyone else must adhere to Covid 19 regulations. Apart from the Covid 19 this has been a very bad year for our cricket family. We have had too many deaths. May the Lord comfort the families of the departed souls. We need to not only embrace the spirit of BLM, but we must be the voice that reverberate at all cricket events in this regard. Our son of the soil, Lungi Ngidi led the way everyone must join in. It is pleasing to see the number of cricket hubs increase in our province. This is our commitment to grow the game of cricket in the whole province. It will also help us to increase the number of Township clubs. To help facilitate this, our coaching instructor must please focus more on the development of black coaches. That is part of transformation. PAGE | 4 2020 AGM Unfortunately little has happened in the schools cricket due to Covid 19. We hope and trust that when the situation gets better our educators and coaches will resume with the intention to cover up the lost time. We also call on everybody involved to assist in increasing the number of Township schools playing the game. It is still my call that we need to reduce playing costs. I am still calling for the involvement and the inclusion of women into this beautiful game. This should not be seen as a favor to our women folk, it is our responsibility. We must increase the number of women administrators and strengthen our women and girls teams. In the same vein we must also involve our differently abled community. We have Transformation targets to achieve. I implore district to come up with strategies to develop and promote women involvement. Congratulations to the districts for adhering to the correct Geo-political demarcations. The professional and provincial sides have shown some improvements this past season. The Hollywoodbets Dolphins are the Momentum One Day Cup champions, while our Coastal provincial team are also the champions in their 3-Day division. Congratulations to the Management and coaching staff for the work well done. Our trophy cabinet is slowly filling up. We expect our teams to keep the momentum going, no pun intended. We are still addressing the issue of our extra seat in the CSA member's Council. We hope this is about to be resolved. We have set up two relief initiatives to combat hunger and provide relief to some of our cricket compatriots. There is a relief fund to assist with specific needs in our cricket family and the “Bowl out hunger” initiative which aims to feed our hubs. In conclusion, I would like to thank all our sponsors and partners, without them we would not be where we are today. I would also like to thank and congratulate the CEO and his staff for their contribution to our success. I would also like to thank the council, Manco and office bearers and directors for the support. Let us all be safe during this difficult time. Unity is our strength and diversity is our power. PAGE | 5 2020 AGM President KZN Cricket Union MESSAGE FROM KZNCU CEO Heinrich Strydom Introduction It is with great pride that I reflect on the financial year ended on 30 April 2020. As the KZN cricket fraternity we can all look back fondly at one of our most successful years in recent times. Our combined mission over the last three years has been to return the KZN Cricket Union to the top of the Affiliate list, the Dolphins to the top of the Franchise list and Kingsmead to the top of the stadium list. My logic has always told me, to become the best we need to be ranked and viewed as part of the top three nationally in as many sectors of our business as possible. A holistic approach to ensure that every aspect of our business is well managed and optimally implemented. Background We are the custodians of cricket in the KZN Province and have over many years duly implemented cricket structures in all 11 districts. We operate the franchise activities in the professional entity, KZN Cricket (Pty) Ltd, and the amateur and stadium activities in the Non- profit organization, KZN Cricket Union. The KZN Cricket Union is broadly broken down into the following departments: Core business PAGE | 6 2020 AGM - Stadium & Facilities management (Hollywoodbets Kingsmead, Pietermaritzburg Oval) - KZN Coastal Cricket Services (eThekwini, Ugu, Ilembe, King Cetshwayo, Umkhanyakude)* - KZN Inland Cricket Services (Umgungundlovu, Harry Gwala, Amajuba, Zululand, Umzinyathi, Uthukela)* *Cricket Services cover all amateur cricket aspects including KFC Mini-cricket, RPC/Hubs Development, Youth cricket (schools-boys & girls), Senior cricket (clubs, academy, rural, women provincial, semi-professional), Cricket support services (umpires, scorers, coaches, data capturing) Support services - Finance & Human Resources - Marketing & Communications - Governance - Transformation - IT Results Our key performance indicators remain feedback from our valuable stakeholders throughout the cricket service framework, our partners, fans, players and officials, a breakeven or better financial result, unqualified audit report, a healthy pipeline, the CSA EPG & Transformation scorecard, the CSA Operational and Incentive scorecard, the winning of trophies, the production of Protea players, world class facilities and a steady flow of quality coaches, umpires, scorers, ground staff and administrators. As part of this reflection of the 12-month period we will proudly share our performances against these indicators, as well as highlight some challenges experienced. A short summary of our core business results include producing 11 Proteas for the National Men and Women teams, the Momentum One-day Cup Champions, CSA 3-Day Challenge Champions, Africa T20 Finalists, top three finish for the Rural team, top four finish for the Women’s team, successful hosting of a sold out match against England, successful launch of Operation Kingsmead, the commitment from Hollywoodbets as the new stadium sponsor until at least 2024, a successful revamped Sunfoil/DSR RPC/Hubs development tournament, an intriguing DPL tournament and various partners confirming their continued support. A short summary of our results from a support services perspective reflect a very successful financial year, an unqualified audit report, adherence to all compliance and statutory requirements, first place in the CSA EPG & Transformation scorecard, overall improvement on the CSA Operational Scorecard to 83%, which included 100% for Governance, 97% for Finance and admin, 89% for Youth cricket and 85% for RPC/Hubs, as well as constantly improving the work environment for our +-200 staff compliment. PAGE | 7 2020 AGM Gratitude I wish to thank my entire cricket family for the loyal support, selfless service and commitment to ensure the sustainability of cricket. Our success over the past year is attributable to every person who made cricket a part of their lives. I wish to thank our KZNCU President, Mr. Ben Dladla, for his devoted leadership and sound guidance. I wish to thank all the selfless individuals involved in the governance structures for ensuring a sound foundation for the operational part of our business. I wish to thank all the volunteers, administrators, coaches, umpires, scorers, and ground staff involved at the various levels of our district, club, school, and development activities. I wish to acknowledge the staff at Cricket South Africa and all my peers from other affiliates for their input and sharing of best practices. I would like to make special mention of our phenomenal partners who have committed to walk this journey with us. They are all industry leaders and excellent examples of what can be achieved through hard work, passion and innovation. It has been a privilege to learn from each of them and I am sincerely grateful to be able to consider them family.
