Common Bearberry Arctostaphylos uva-ursi. Also known as Kinnikinnick. A low growing native shrub. It is from the family ericaceae and is evergreen. Thick leathery leaves are light green in spring, deep green in summer and reddish purple in fall. It has showy flowers and fruits. Flowers are pink or white, bell-shaped and in clusters. Bright red berries last into/through winter. This shrub gets 6-12 inches tall and can spread 3 to 6 feet. Grows best in sandy and well drained soils in full sun.
