Event Code: M130308SW Ping Shan is a well-preserved heritage site in Yuen Long, and home to the Tang Clan -- one of the “Five Great Clans” who settled in the New Territories hundreds of years ago. The Chamber is organizing a visit to the Ping Shan Heritage Trail, which takes you through traditional villages, centuries-old ancestral halls and a walled village that date back to the 12th century. Programme Details Date: Friday, 8 March, 2013 10:00 a.m. Assemble at Tin Shui Wai MTR Station - West Rail Line 1. Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda. A three-storey, hexagonal, green-bricked building. The top floor of the pagoda is home to Fui Shing (‘Champion Star’), the deity responsible for the success or failure in exams. Auspicious Chinese sayings are inscribed on each floor. 2. Sheung Cheung Wai. This 200-year-old walled village consists of rows of symmetrical houses surrounded by a green brick wall. The gatehouse, shrines and some old houses are still standing and are a good example of traditional villages. 3. Tang Ancestral Hall. Constructed in 1273, the hall is a magnificent three-hall structure with two internal courtyards. The exquisite carvings, Shiwan dragon-fish and pottery unicorn decorations on the main ridges and roofs are exceptional. 4. Yu Kiu Ancestral Hall 5. Kun Ting Study Hall. An ancestral hall, with finely carved granite full of auspicious pattern and carvings on the inside walls. 6. Ching Shu Hin. Originally a guesthouse for scholars and prominent visitors with elegant decoration of woodcarving, murals, patterned grilles, carved brackets and plaster mouldings. 7. Ping Shan Tang Clan Gallery cum Village Trail Visitor Centre. This former Ping Shan Police Station was built in 1899.
