Meanwhile, if you want to enjoy air-conditioned entertainment, we will still have four theaters screening the best independent SENECA PARK ZOO films in Rochester. Our TV crews will also be on site recording the newest season of our national Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival series at Kilbourn Hall, as well as shooting the sights and sounds throughout the streets and venues. Outdoor activities range from birding to winter survival skills. Co-director Tim Drake explains more about the organization founded in 2000: Q. How would you describe Primitive Pursuits? A. Primitive Pursuits on the surface is a nature connection program. Dig a little deeper NTS and you see it’s also a personal development program. Digging even deeper, you find a foundation for cultural healing. Q. What would you like the WXXI audience to know about Primitive Pursuits? A. Primitive Pursuits, though rooted firmly in youth development, has grown to offer a wide variety of adult programs. We were all kids once! Q. What types of camps and programs are available at Primitive Pursuits? A. Adult programs range from stand-alone weekend workshops heavy in the primitive skills to 200- EVE plus Wilderness Skills Instructor Certification Courses. Youth programs include summer camps and school break programs, home school and afterschool programs, leadership classes, and more. Q. Which of your programs offers the most unique experience or has gained the & greatest response? A. Of late our year-round Forest Preschool program. Although there are relatively few like it in the United States, it is very common in several northern European countries. S Q. Primitive Pursuits provides an opportunity to reconnect with nature. Do you feel that former students find a way to incorporate what they learn in their typical technology and social media-focused lives? A. Thankfully yes! We have been around for 15 years now, and we often hear back from alumni. For some the program has set a solid foundation for prioritizing time spent outside. Also, there is awareness that with such a practice there is a certain peace of mind that can’t be found anywhere else. For others the program has influenced their career paths and course of studies EW at university levels.
