THE FERRIS STATE SERIES: The Saints and Bulldogs will play for the eighth and ninth times when the two teams meet in Big Rapids this weekend and Ferris State has the upper hand in the series. The Bulldogs swept the Saints in Canton to open the 2011-12 campaign, 4-2 and 5-1 and lead the all-time series 6-1-0. The lone Saint win was a 5-4 victory in the Catamount Classic at Vermont in 2008. Ferris State is 3-0-0 on home ice against the Saints, sweeping a series in 2009-10 4-2 and 3-0. SLU AND THE WCHA: The Ferris State series are the only games on the Saint schedule this season against the WCHA and the first against a WCHA team since a 2010 home series against Michigan Tech. Ferris State is in its first season in the new WCHA after the demise of the CCHA at the end of last season. Ferris State joins former CCHA members Bowling Green, Lake Superior State, Northern Michigan and Alaska, Alabama Huntsville (independent last year) and former WCHA members Alaska Anchorage, Bemidji State, Michigan Tech and Minnesota State to make up the new WCHA. BROTHER ACTS: The arrival of Matt Carey gives the Saints a brother act in the lineup for the ninth straight season and bodes well for older brother Greg.
