Increasingly national and international in scope, the Institute’s initiatives target audiences ranging from students to scholars to the general public. The Institute creates history-centered schools and academic research centers, organizes seminars and enrichment programs for educators, produces print and electronic publications and traveling exhibitions, and sponsors lectures by eminent historians. GLI also sponsors awards, including the Lincoln Prize and Frederick Douglass Book Prize, and offers fellowships for scholars to work in the Gilder Lehrman Collection and other archives. The Institute owns historical documents and makes them available to museums, libraries, researchers, and publications. The Institute maintains two websites, www.gilderlehrman.org and the quarterly online journal www.historynow.org, which offer educational resources for teachers, students, historians, and the public. advisory board Co-Chairmen President Executive Director Richard Gilder James G. The award honors the outstanding history teacher in each of the fifty states, and the national winner is chosen from that group (p. 22). contents G The Gilder Lehrman Collection, on deposit at the New-York Historical Society, reopened its doors to researchers (p. 38). 6 Seminars G The Institute and the New-York Historical Society collaborated on Alexander Hamilton: 10 History Schools and Programs The Man Who Made Modern America, the most extensive Hamilton exhibition ever assembled (p. 14). 14 Special Project: Alexander Hamilton: The Man Who Made Modern America G The Institute launched History Now (www.historynow.org), a new quarterly online 18 Exhibitions and Public Programs journal for teachers, students, and general readers (p. 34). 21 Prizes and Awards G On Veterans Day the Institute unveiled Battle Lines: Letters from America’s Wars, our first online exhibition. It was co-sponsored with the Legacy Project, headed by 25 Scholarly Fellowships Andrew Carroll (p. 32). 28 Undergraduate History Scholars Program G In partnership with several school districts, the Institute was awarded six new federal Teaching American History Grants, bringing our total to sixteen. The new partners 31 Website include school districts in Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, New York, and Wisconsin (p. 43). 33 Publications (Print and Electronic) G The first two Junior Historians’ Forums, featuring Allen C. Guelzo and Edward L.
