ti@ GENERAL INFORMATION Warsaw is the capital of Poland and its administrative, political, and financial center. Home to a great number of well-educated, talented and capable young people, the city is easily accessible, with a fast- growing GDP and high quality of life. It is the largest city in Poland with the area of 517 square kilometres and almost 1.8 million residents (more than 3 million in the metropolitan area). The city has wide cultural offer, thriving restaurant scene and 79 parks. WARSAW HISTORY During the World War II, the central area of the city was almost entirely destroyed. After the war, a five- year reconstruction campaign by its citizens resulted in today's meticulous restoration of the Old Town, with its churches, the royal castle and market-places. It is an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century listed as UNESCO World Heritage. The first settlements in the area of the city date back to the 13th century; Warsaw became the capital of Poland in 1596. VISTULA RIVERBANK Spending time by the Vistula riverbank in Warsaw becomes more and more popular each year. In the middle of a busy city, it offers an escape from noise and traffic into the atmosphere of a lazy vacation day. Spacious beaches, green areas, numerous restaurants, clubs and cafes, sport clubs and a broad sailing offer are only a few things to do or places to visit there. The City realises projects regarding the river making sure that the 19th district – an unofficial name given to the revived river area -has something for everyone. Tourists can enjoy a stroll along the Vistula boulevards, the amazing light and music show in the Multimedia Fountain Park, or a picnic on one of the many Vistula beaches. Partying enthusiasts will have a chance to visit clubs and cafes along the river, and dance till dawn at warm weekends. The more visitors, the more ideas and possibilities for a fun and relaxing time.
