Referring to himself as a truth seeker in stories, Bakshi is known for his mastery of observation, logical reasoning and criminology, which he uses to solve complex cases, usually murders. The character is often referred to as the Indian version of Sherlock Holmes. Originally appearing in the 1932 story Satyanweshi, the character's popularity has increased significantly in Bengal and other parts of India. Although it gained immense popularity in the Indian subcontinent with the film Chiriyakhana directed by Satyajit Ray, the script charadend himself, with Uttam Kumar depicting Byomkesh. The story takes place in 1932 in the Chinabazar area of Kolkata, where the non-governmental detective Byomkesh Bakshi, thanks to the permission of the police commissioner, begins to live in a mess in the area under the pseudonym Atul Chandra Niyegi to investigate a series of murders. Most of the stories are written from the perspective of Ajit Kumar Banerjee, who meets Byomkesh in a mess in Chinabazar. Byomkesh later asks Ajit to live with him in his three-story rented on Harrison Road as his assistant and chronicler. The only person in his family is his companion Puteram. At the beginning of the story, Bykkesh Bakshi is described as a man of twenty-three or twenty-four years who looked well educated. Byomkesh is a Hindu and wears a mostly white shirt/jacket with white dhoti, sometimes draping a headscarf. He does not live in luxury, but has numerous books. He often travels, does not own a gun and does not consider himself an expensive assistant. He usually smokes and drinks tea with milk. He is fluent in Bengali, Hindi and English. Bykkesh doesn't like being called a detective, and thinks the word investigator is even worse. So he wrote out a new name for himself, which he put on a brass plate in front of his house. The plaque read: Boekesh Bakshi Satyanweshi (Inquisitor). Family Unlike other main characters in detective fictional stories, Byomkesh Bakshi marries, ages, and contemplates material things such as buying a car. Later, he also decides to buy land in Kyatala in southern Kolkata and moves into his new home. Boehkesh meets Satyabati, his future wife and sister of the accused Sukumaran, in Artamaartham. The stories represent 10 crimes from the first story, Satyanweshi, where Byomkesh destroys international drug racket, for domestic secrets and crimes like Arthamanartham and Makorshar Roche. Sharadindu did not want to continue the stories of Bykkesh, because of which he stopped writing from 1938 to 1951. During this time, he started writing scripts. movies in Bombay.
