Located 40 miles southeast of Des Moines, Central offers its 1,700 students learning opportunities not only on the Pella campus, but on branch campuses in London, England; Merida, Mexico; Leiden, the Netherlands; and Bangor, Wales; and at study centers in Granada, Spain; Hangzhou, China; Paris, France; and Vienna, Austria. Central is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division III, and the lowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Men compete in baseball, football, basketball, tennis, golf, wrestling, soccer, track and cross country, while women compete in tennis, golf, track, softball, volleyball, cross country, soccer and basketball. Rugby is offered at the club level. The A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex The A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex is located at the corner of Independence Street and West Fifth Street in southwest Pella. The complex includes P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium (1970), H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse (1987), Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium (1977), the baseball and softball fields (1978), Ryerson Golf Practice Range (2005), tennis courts (1992), soccer field (2005) and the Ron Schipper Fitness Center (1999). The complex also includes practice and intramural softball diamonds and football fields. Golf meets are held at the Bos Landen Golf Club, two miles southwest of the campus on Highway T-15. He was an assistant coach for four years before being promoted to associate head coach in 2002 and then head coach in 2003. A 1990 Central graduate, Clayberg has compiled a 174-75 (.698) record in seven seasons as head coach, winning five Iowa Conference titles and earning four NCAA Division III playoff berths. He was the Iowa Conference coach of the year in 2007 after sharing the honor in 2003 and 2005. Clayberg has been an instrumental part of a Dutch program which has produced three NCAA Division III champion- ships, 11 NCAA playoff berths and 12 consecutive Iowa Conference titles, with 17 league crowns overall. He has been selected three times to coach all-star squads in international competition through USA Athletes International, Inc. He coached a Division III team in the Netherlands in 2001, took a squad of Division II all-stars to the Northern University Games in Cairn, Australia in 2005 and led a team of combined division players to Scotland in 2009. He previously was an elementary school teacher at Boone, Iowa. He earned a master’s degree in education with a con- centration in exercise physiology from Iowa State University. He was a student coach for the Cyclone volleyball team for one season and served as a club coach as well. Clayberg also teaches in Central’s exercise science department. Traci Dyer Assistant coach Traci Dyer is in her second season on the Central volleyball staff. Dyer, a 2008 Central graduate, was a two-time let- terwinner for the Dutch and received the team’s 2007 Spirit Award. A San Antonio, Texas native, Dyer is completing require- ments for a master’s degree in secondary education at Texas State Univ. Rhea Softley Assistant coach Rhea Softley is in her second season on the Central volleyball staff.
