LAN2 strives to set high standards in registrar education and training with a commitment to providing a high quality teaching and learning environment by cross- facility networking. Learning is facilitated by both didactic and interactive tutorials provided by recognised experts in the respective fields. The current Radiology Training Program, is a five-year program conducted in two major phases: Phase 1 consists of 3 years of general radiology training; Phase 2 extends over a 2 year period following Phase 1, based on systems-focussed (as distinguished from subspecialty) rotations for advanced radiology training. For trainees in the current Radiology training programme, requirements are: Part 1 examination – comprising of 4 papers delivered in an electronic format over 2 days. Progression through the program occurs by the achievement of regular satisfactory assessments made or signed off by Clinical Supervisors & Directors of Training via the Trainee Information Management System (TIMS) on the RANZCR website. All trainees will be issued with a User Guide and log in details to access TIMS, on commencement into the training program. Part 2 examination consists of examinations in Radiology (eMCQs and e-Film Reading), Pathology (eMCQs) and Vivas. In order to be eligible to sit for the Part 2 FRANZCR examination, a candidate must have passed the Part 1 FRANZCR examination and have satisfied the accredited training requirements in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore. For trainees joining the programme, a completed application form including all required supporting documents is to be sent by the applicant to the Royal Australia New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) within two (2) weeks of commencement of training date. Exams are held in March & September each year. RANZCR policy states that you are allowed 4 attempts to pass the exam in your first 2 years of training. The NSW Statewide Severe Burn Injury Service and the Bernie Banton Centre, an asbestos diseases research institute are located at CRGH. As a 750 - bed teaching hospital of the University of Sydney, Concord offers a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services, many of which are recognised nationally and internationally as centres of excellence. Some of these include: burns, colorectal surgery, laparoscopic surgery, molecular biology and genetic laboratory, aged and extended care, gastroenterology and palliative care. The hospital has received consecutive years of accreditation from the Australian Council on Health Care Standards, and consecutive Accreditation Awards from the Postgraduate Medical Council of NSW for the exemplary training of postgraduate doctors. The Medical Imaging Department is located in the multi building of the hospital offering radiology services that include CT – 64 slice and 128 slice machines, 3T MRI, ultrasound for diagnostic and interventional purposes, CR mammography, orthopantomogram (OPG), screening procedures – one machine with DSA function and 3 mobile fluoroscopy units, 7 general radiography units of which 4 of those mobile units and 2 angiography units with one hybrid unit located in the department and the other in operating theatre. From 2017 Concord Medical Imaging department will be RANZCR (Royal Australia New Zealand College of Radiologists) accredited with 12 radiology training positions. RPA provides an extensive range of diagnostic and treatment services to more people in NSW than any other public hospital. More than 1000 patients are treated at RPA every day. The Radiology Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Lifehouse provides equitable diagnostic, interventional and consultative services to medical practitioners and patients through the application of medical imaging technology. Medical Imaging Department boasts 4 CT scanners – 16, 64 & 128 slice and a 16 slice dedicated interventional machine, breast imaging in the Lifehouse, including interventional procedures, general radiography units including digital OPG and 3 mobile units, 2 angiography suites with a dedicated interventional CT scanner and several standalone ultrasound units used for a variety of interventional procedures, along with 2 MRI machines - 1.5 tesla GE system and 3 tesla Siemens Syngo. There is a 1.5T MRI Avanto system in theatre currently leased by the Neurosurgery Department.
