% Y\YY\Y j Alchemy j Y\YY\Y % ANNUAL REPORT “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think” Hindustan Group of Institutions with a legacy of -Albert Einstein five decades of excellence in education established Hindustan First Grade College in 2015. Guided by the vision of our founder Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, “To make every man a success and no man a failure”, the institution has made tremendous progress in all areas academic, non-academics, capacity building relevant to staff and students. Five years for an institution is a worthy stage where one can start Dr. C J Priya Principal matching expectations with results, objectives with achievements and above all, blessings enjoyed with difficulties and hardships endured. It is often said “Perfection is not attainable but if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence”. Yes, every school and college strives for excellence. So do we, at Hindustan First Grade College, Mysuru. Several steps are being undertaken for multi-dimensional growth of the institution and effective industry-institute interface, contributing in turn, towards the growth of a healthy and happy society. I am pleased to share that the college activities for the year 2019-20. The college offers two regular courses in B.Com, BCA and a specialized course in BBA Aviation Management. At Hindustan First Grade College, we take immense pride in the fact that our students receive the best quality education. This is made possible by following high standards of teaching and learning. Our excellence is not just confined to the classroom; we are also notable active in conducting conferences, workshops, seminars, guest lectures and other co-curricular activities. These activities expose students to aspects beyond curriculum, thus adding high value to their professional success. Department Staff: The faculties of HFGC have contributed enormously for the eminence and reputation of the college. They have been pursuing research, presenting papers, publishing articles and writing books and have also been associated with academic and other organizations. In the recent past, Dr. C. J. Priya, Dr. Harshavardhana B and Dr. Gururaja Rao have completed their doctoral research and were awarded Ph.D degrees. We have 19 teaching staff and 5 non teaching staff on roll. Out of 19 teaching staff, 3 faculties were awarded Ph.D., degree and 10 faculties have cleared UGC-NET/KSET exams. Teachers have also organized and participated in various conferences and workshops and thereby motivate and empower the students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers and productive members of an ever changing global society. Students’ activities Our students were provided with number of opportunities this year. Many students have excelled in individual achievements by participating in various intra & inter collegiate events. Competitions and activities organized offered opportunities for students to learn the values of teamwork, individual and group responsibility and a sense of culture and community. Among the celebrations marked with total student involvement and with great joy were the Independence Day, Founders day, Onam, Teachers day, Christmas, Founder’s Memorial Day, Republic Day, Fun week, Freshers day, Talents day and International Women’s day. % % 17 % Y\YY\Y j Alchemy j Y\YY\Y % 50 students from our college had participated in Yuva Dasara 2019 and performed a dance on the theme “Hasivu Neegisi”. They were one among 265 colleges who had taken part in Yuva Sambrama 2019 which was identified, appreciated and the students got the opportunity to perform the same dance during Yuva Dasara 2019. Extracurricular activities provided a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom in a real-world context, and are thus considered an integral part of a well-rounded education. Leadership: Leadership and Learning are two sides of the same coin. In order to develop the leadership quality among the students, student’s council was formed during June 2020. The students developed participatory power which is necessary for leadership and took leadership with social responsibility. The badges for the student council leaders were distributed which was followed by oath taking at office. Mohammed Shakeel, III B.Com (President), Pooja C, III BCA (Vice President) Vishnu Priya, II B.Com (General Secretary), Pruthvik, I B.Com (Joint Secretary), Nagarjun, II BCA (Sports Secretary) and Chandrashekhar B, III B.Com (Cultural Secretary) were elected as Student Council members for the academic year 2019-20. ‘Voice of Hindustan’ & ‘Tech Zone’– Newsletter: ‘Voice of Hindustan’, the college newsletter which is published monthly, reflected the clear picture of all sorts of activities undertaken by a college and developed writing skills among students and staff. “Voice of Hindustan” issues contained the reports of various activities held in the college, the upcoming events, informative articles, interesting interviews and many more interesting write ups. Dr. KC.G’s corner was a regular column reserved for the write ups regarding life history of our respected founder, Dr. K.C.G.Verghese. Star of Hindustan was a column / interview reserved for the student achievers and few columns were reserved for the students in all the issues, through which we provided an opportunity for the students to transform themselves as authors and publish their articles. ‘Tech Zone’, an IT magazine is an issue which is published semi annually, comprised the activities and achievement of the Computer Science department in the Academic & Co-curricular activities and it has provided a platform for the students of BCA department to explore in IT field. Governing Council Meet: Governing Council Meeting was held during February 2020. The meeting was presided by Dr Anand Jacob Verghese, Managing Trustee, HFGC. Mr. Ashok G Verghese, Trustee, HFGC, Mr. Abel Mathew Prasad, Special Officer, HFGC, Dr C J Priya, Principal, HFGC, CA M K Rangaswamy, Chartered Accountant, Mr. Balaji, DGM Accounts and Admin and Mr. Vivek Reddy, Resident Executive were present for the meeting. The activities of the college were reviewed during the meeting. Management Advisory Committee Meet: Management Advisory Committee Meeting was held at Chennai during January 2020. The meeting was presided by Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, HGI. The principals of 7 institutions of Hindustan Group were invited to present the activities/achievements of the college which were reviewed during the meeting. Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Managing Trustee, HFGC, Dr. Aby Sam, Director, HGI, Mr. Ashok Verghese, Trustee, HFGC, Dr Annie Jacob, Trustee, HFGC, Dr Susan Marthandan, Director, HCAS & Members from Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science, Hindustan College of Arts & Science, KCG College of Technology, Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology, Hindustan International School, Orient Flights Aviation Academy and Hindustan First Grade College were present for the meeting. % % 18 % Y\YY\Y j Alchemy j Y\YY\Y % Dedication and Inauguration of HFGC new Block Hindustan First Grade College celebrated the Dedication and Inauguration of its New Block and Orient Flights Aviation Academy’s International Hostel during October 2019. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions, Chennai, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Managing Trustee, HFGC, Dr. Annie Jacob, Trustee, HFGC and Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Chennai graced the occasion with their presence. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions, Chennai inaugurated the New Block by cutting the ribbon. It was then time to thank God for being with the College Management throughout the construction of this new edifice of learning and for blessing all those who have been involved in this project, where Rev. Joby Verghese, Student Chapalin, Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science, Chennai & Rev. Prakash Abraham, Vicar, Marthoma Syrian Church, Mysuru lead the ceremony of blessing through prayer service and later they blessed the interior of the building. The new block of Hindustan First Grade College consists of an advanced computing lab and other facilities which were inaugurated by Dr. Annie Jacob, Trustee, HFGC and Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director, Hindustan College of Arts and Science, Chennai. The Chairperson Dr. Elizabeth Verghese distributed prizes for the student achievers of HGFC. Damodara B of I B.Com who secured Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at various National & State level Athletic event and the team of Dancers who performed at Yuva Dasara 2019 were felicitated during the function. Committees/Clubs: Various committees are formed in the College for the smooth and efficient management of activities. It also has given an opportunity to the faculty to grow and develop in their extracurricular activity/field and administrative skills. The committees were constituted by the Principal in consultation with the senior staff of the college for one academic year. The various Committees formed during the Academic year 2019- 20 were Admission & Annual Plan Committee, Timetable Committee, Attendance Committee, Examination Committee, Women’s cell/Prevention of women Harassment Committee, Discipline & Anti ragging Committee, Student’s grievance Committee, National days/National Festival Celebration Committee, NSS unit, Sports council, Student’s council, Placement and Training Cell, Faculty Assessment/Remedial/ Mentoring Committee, Alumni Association, Magazine Committee, Newsletter Committee,
