Newstalk Zb Widens Gap to Radio Live Zm’S Fletch Vaughan and Megan Beats the Edge’S Jay-Jay, Mike and Dom^

Media Release for Immediate Release – 2 October 2015 NEWSTALK ZB WIDENS GAP TO RADIO LIVE ZM’S FLETCH VAUGHAN AND MEGAN BEATS THE EDGE’S JAY-JAY, MIKE AND DOM^ 2 October 2015 – The results of the independent TNS New Zealand Commercial Radio Survey 2/2015 are in and Mediaworks has decreased their 18-54 audience by 46,600# listeners, NZME has gained 6,300#. Newstalk ZB has increased the gap##### over Radio Live and Hosking has maintained his share nationally at a stellar 16.7% versus his Paul Henry on 5.8%**. Hosking has also grown his 25-54 to 8.2%**. Newstalk ZB’s gap also widened in Drive time with Duncan Garner losing listeners and Larry Williams gaining them in the key 25-54 demographic. Here, Garner’s audience decreased (4,500) and Williams increased (10,500)###. Williams now has more than double the listeners than Garner###. Dean Buchanan, Managing Director NZME Radio says, “We’re rapt with today’s results. Newstalk ZB will just continue to strengthen further with Marcus Lush joining the Newstalk ZB team, hosting the Night Show from January.” Why is Newstalk ZB so dominant? - Top talent who continue to innovate which is even further demonstrated in their digital and social audience engagement. - Our strategy is very clear that we have channel experts tailoring the right content to the right channels and not same content different channels. ZM Breakfast has had a huge win beating The Edge Breakfast with the most listeners in the critical 18- 39 audience####. “To have an increased share and number of listeners now tuning into ZM reflects on the terrific team ZM are becoming. We also beat The Edge digitally in August+ so ZM is on fire and is exactly tracking to where we want it to be. The great thing is there’s a lot more opportunity in there.” As reported earlier this week NZME Radio rated as the number one radio network* beating Mediaworks radio brands in the August Nielsen Online Ratings measurement report. “Digital is now a key metric for us as this is how the next generation of listeners tune in (10-17). It was fantastic to see The Hits capturing the number one website of any radio station for August. Newstalk ZB, ZM and Flava also had great results out rating their rival stations. We have more registered users on iHeartRadio now (395,000) than there are listeners in the 10-17 year old age group for all of radio nationwide#. The need for advertisers to engage digitally with radio is becoming more significant, which NZME is focused on.” Overall NZME is number one in news (Newstalk ZB)*, number one in sport (Radio Sport)* and Coast is a minuscule 0.1% share away from being number one in music*, which Buchanan called “just a blip and well within margin of error”. The interesting point is that Coast targets a 40 year old plus audience and in this demographic it continues its share growth and holds its number one music position* despite Mediaworks having three stations targeting this demo; The Breeze, Magic and Sound. Specifically in the Auckland and Wellington markets NZME is number one in news, sport and music (Auckland #1 all people 10+ News, Sport & Music share* and Wellington #1 all people 10+ News, Sport, and Music cumulative audience#) and in Christchurch NZME is number one in news and sport*#. Buchanan says, “We have always taken the stance that we are in survey 365 days a year. We are greatly appreciative of the support from our listeners and our advertisers and as a result the compelling content doesn’t stop, these results reflect that.” ENDS SOURCE TNS New Zealand Commercial National Survey 2/2015 (unless otherwise stated) *Station Share (%), All 10+, Mon-Sun 12mn-12mn, unless otherwise stated. #Cumulative Audience (000’s), All 10+, Mon-Sun 12mn-12mn, unless otherwise stated. **Station Share (%), All 10+, Mon-Fri 6.00am-8.30am, unless otherwise stated. ###Cumulative Audience (000’s), All 10+, Mon-Fri 4.00-7.00pm, unless otherwise stated. ****Station Share (%), All 10+, Mon-Fri 6.00am-9.00am, unless otherwise stated. ####Cumulative Audience (000’s), All 10+, Mon-Fri 6.00am-9.00am unless otherwise stated. #####Cumulative Audience (000’s), All 10+, Mon-Sun 12mn-12mn S2-2014-S2-2015 ^ Cumulative Audience (000’s), All 18-39, Mon-Fri 6.00am-8.30am +Nielsen Online Ratings, Unique Audience, August 2015 For further information or to speak to Dean Buchanan please contact: Niki Schuck PR +64 21 911 332 [email protected] About New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) NZME is New Zealand Media and Entertainment.
