Al Sabah AASF President It is my pleasure to welcome all of you on our 10th AASF General Congress. I am thankful to Olympic Council of Asia for giving us the chance to have this assembly during the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, Korea. I also would like to acknowledge the presence of Dr. Julio Maglione, FINA President, and also our dear friends from FINA. Thank you for always supporting us. I also appreciate the hard work of all Bureau Members, Technical Committees, and AASF office for helping us oversee the various championships held in our continent. And for all the AASF delegates, please convey my sincerest gratitude to each member of your federation for the cooperation and active participation on AASF events. As we go ahead with our missions and commitments, let us create a wonderful teamwork towards one mutual goal, and that is to continue uplifting the level of performance of every member of our aquatic family. Al Sabah AASF Activities 2012 -2014 Mr. Qiuping Zhang Secretary General AASF Activities 2012 -2014 Mr. Qiuping Zhang Secretary General Over the years, AASF has engaged in various activities that would enhance the skills of each member of our aquatic family. Each national federation had shown massive efforts in training their teams, thus producing athletes who are talented enough to compete worldwide. Our continent has generated champions in every aquatic discipline and we know for sure that we will not stop developing more champions in the future. I would like to appreciate the excellent leadership of our President, Sheikh Khalid B. Al Sabah. AASF would have not reached this level without your supervision. Likewise, I would like to thank our colleagues from FINA for making time to be with us on these occasions. Thank you for your unending guidance and support on all AASF activities. I am proud to present to you the different activities which AASF has organized with the support and cooperation of all members. I am very happy to say that we have managed to conclude each event successfully due to everyone’s commitment. For that, I am sharing this glory to every member of AASF family. Keep up the good work everyone! The meeting was held on 17 November 2012 in conjunction with the 9th Asian Swimming Championships in Dubai, UAE. Chaired by the AASF President, Sheikh Khalid B. Al Sabah, the gathering was successfully conducted having a fruitful discussion on various strategies pertinent to the development of aquatic sports in Asia. The AASF General Congress was carried out on 18 November 2012 at the InterContinental Hotel Dubai Festival City. Forty (40) countries attended the assembly thru their Aquatic federations' delegates along with several prestigious officials from FINA headed by Dr. Julio Maglione, FINA The Asian Representatives in FINA President. Bureau as well as the elected AASF Officials for the term 2013 – 2017 were one of the highlights of the assembly. Gala Lunch Bureau Meeting 18 November 2012 InterContinental Dubai Festival City Right after the 9th AASF General Congress, the 1st Meeting of the 9th AASF Bureau was conducted with the presence of the new set of Board Members. Sheikh Khalid B. Al Sabah, AASF President, expressed his congratulations to the elected AASF officials for the term 2013 – 2017 and conveyed his appreciation to everyone’s support and cooperation. During the meeting, various proposals and inputs were enthusiastically shared by each member. Mr. Qiuping Zhang, AASF Secretary General, announced the new set of AASF Technical Committee Chairmen. This major event of AASF for the year 2012 was successfully held in Hamdan Sports Complex on 15 - 25 November 2012 wherein, for the first time, all of the four (4) Aquatic disciplines were carried out in one venue. Thirty one (31) Asian national federations had competed and taken part on the various aquatic disciplines. In Swimming, 24 countries and 227 swimmers participated. 13 Championship records had been broken and Chinese swept the Medals by achieving 33 Gold, 17 Silver and 5 Bronze. Japan and Hong Kong placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. In Diving, 12 teams took part in 4 events (Men & Women). In Water Polo competitions, 9 Men and 7 Women Teams participated and it was a Qualification Tournament for the FINA World champion- ships. China & Kazakhstan (Men and Women) had been qualified to attend in the 15th FINA World Championships. In Synchronised Swimming, 10 teams competed for the total number of 7 Gold Medals in Solo, Duet, Team and Combination. China garnered a complete 7 in numbers. Japan secured 5 Silver medals ahead of team DPR Korea with two Silvers and four Bronzes. One of the highlights during the 9th AASF General Congress was the announcement of the host country for the 10th Asian Swimming Championships. This major event of AASF has been awarded to Japan Swimming Federation. During the Congress, Japan Swimming Federation had presented to the members some ideas on what to expect for the next Asian Swimming Champion-ships. As they have a four- year preparation, AASF is indeed looking forward for another remarakable activity The Agreement Signing ceremony with the host country, Japan, of the 10th Asian Swimming Championships was held in Dubai on 19 November 2012. AASF on the year 2013 Following the AASF General Congress which was held in Dubai on 18 November 2012, AASF has moved onwards to having successful activities for the next year. Formation of Technical Committees for the term 2013 – 2017 AASF, in coordination with the elected Technical Committee Chairmen, has set up the officials and members for the Committees comprising the organization for the term 2013 – 2017. An ID card has been issued to each and every member of the committees. It is with great hope that AASF activities will be thoroughly doing well with the assistance of the new Committee members. th 9 Asian Water Polo Clubs Championship Kuwait City Hosted by Kuwait Swimming Association, the 9th Asian Water Polo Clubs Championship was successfully held in Kuwait on 20 – 24 April 2013. Eight (8) Water Polo Clubs from six National federations took part in the event. Astana Club (KAZ), El Etihad Club (KSA) and Qadisia Club (KSA) Clubs bagged the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals respectively. The two races (5km and 10km) of 6th Asian Open Water Swimming Championship were conducted in Kapshagay, Kazakhstan on 17 – 22 June 2013. The Organizing Committee did an excellent job on this event making this championship. The venue and accommodation were as great as the entire event thus making this experience, among the officials and athletes, worthwhile. Malaysian Divers won the 1st place having 6 Gold and 2 Silver Medals. Hong Kong and Singapore divers ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Singapore Swimming association hosted the 3rd Asian Youth Water Polo Championship on 25 – 30 September 2014. The event was successfully held in Toa Payoh Swimming Complex and was also considered as the Asian Qualification Tournament for the FINA World Youth Water Polo Championships, 2014. 10 Boys’ and 7 Girls’ teams had taken part on the championship. Three Boys’ teams -Japan, Iran, and Kazakhstan- who has bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively and two Girls’ teams – China & Japan - had been the Asian representatives to the FINA World Championships. Prior to the conclusion of the 3rd Asian Youth Water Polo Championships, Singapore Swimming Association has started with the 3rd Asian Water Polo Cup which is the Water Polo Qualification Tournament for the FINA Cup, 2014. This water polo competition was conducted on 30 September – 5 October 2013. From the 5 Women teams who had participated, China was the champion and will be representing Asia on the FINA Cup 2014. On the other hand, among the 6 men teams, and if there will be vacancy according to FINA B.L., Iran has been qualified to attend the Cup. From beginning till end of the two Water Polo events, Singapore Swimming Association organized these excellently. Members of AASF had actively participated in various International and Continental aquatic events for the year 2013. 1. 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games The short course swimming competition (25 m) has been a part of the 4th AIMAG which was held in Dowon Aquatic Center – Incheon, Korea on 30 June – 3 July 2013. 2. 2nd Asian Youth Games Asian Youth swimmers and divers participated in the 2nd Asian Youth Games which was held in Nanjing, China on 16 – 24 August 2013. 3. 15th FINA World Championships The 15th FINA World Championships, held in Barcelona, Spain on 20 July – 4 August 2013, was another prestigious aquatic event.
