Resumption of the session The sitting opened at 17.00. 2. Statements by the President The President made a statement about the situation in Syria in which he condemned the repression by the Syrian authorities. He called on President Bashar al-Assad to allow humanitarian aid for the civilian popu­ lation to enter Syria. On the occasion of the Day on Remembrance of the Victims of Terrorism, he recalled the attack in Madrid on 11 March 2004, and expressed Parliament's solidarity with the families of victims of all terrorist attacks. 30.5.2012 EN Official Journal of the European Union C 152 E/3 Monday 12 March 2012 He then spoke of the Fukushima disaster that had occurred a year ago. Parliament observed a minute's silence in commemoration of the victims. 3. Approval of the minutes of the previous sitting The minutes of the previous sitting were approved. 4. Verification of credentials At its meeting on 1 March 2012, pursuant to Rule 3(3) and (4), the Committee on Legal Affairs had verified the credentials of Emer Costello, Phil Bennion and Nikos Chrysogelos and had unanimously proposed validating the mandate of Emer Costello with effect from 15 February 2012, the mandate of Phil Bennion with effect from 6 February 2012 and the mandate of Nikos Chrysogelos with effect from 2 February 2012. 5. Composition of political groups Roger Helmer had joined the EFD Group with effect from 5 March 2012. 6.
