May the Fourth Be With You Family Event Schedule of Activities 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Ongoing activities and takeaways Star Wars™ characters 501ST Legion – be sure to bring your camera as you never know who you might meet. Hovercraft design – Apply Newton’s Laws of Motion to design and build a hovercraft while gaining an understanding of the practical applications of hovercraft technology. Predict how this technology will influence human modes of future transportation. Universal hovercraft demo – See a real hovercraft in action. www.hovercraft.com/content Costume contest – Come dressed in Star Wars ™ costume for a chance to win prizes. Contestants will be judged on costume, make-up, resemblance to character, poise & confidence as well as audience reception. Participants will be divided into categories by age. Yoda crafts – Young Jedi will design their very own “take home” Yoda. Robotics challenge – Participants will gain an understanding of how difficult it is to program robots to perform specific tasks. They will analyze balance and other concepts in order to better understand the laws of gravity. LEGO® levitation and Maglev demos – Be amazed by demonstrations of the properties of magnetism. Learn how opposite poles attract and like poles repel, then apply the concepts to make cool mini-science fiction vehicles such as landspeeders and hovercrafts. Space snaps – No Star Wars ™ event would be complete without the opportunity to let your imagination run wild and capture the moment with a “selfie” using an assortment of Star Wars ™ props. Be sure to tag us on Twitter @spacecenterhou Workshops 10:30 a.m., Noon, Jedi Training with Obi Shawn – Young Jedi-in-training will learn the ancient secrets of The Force as Obi Shawn and his assistants teach the 1:30 p.m. & 3 p.m. ways of the Jedi. Keep your guard up because a dark presence has been sensed that seeks to spoil this peaceful celebration. Lightsaber Design – Guests will design their very own “take home” Jedi 11 a.m., 11:30 p.m. lightsabers as they learn the basics of electronics in this thought-inspiring & 2 p.m. activity. * Activities and demonstrations subject to cancellation or change without notice.
