LaserGeorgianU for Windows Release History ________________________________________ 1. Copyright and Trademark Information a. Copyright 2005-2009 Payne Loving Trust. All rights reserved. By copyright law this software program may not be modified or copied for others, whether or not sold. b. LaserGeorgian is a trademark of the Payne Loving Trust registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. BatumiCapsU, BatumiTextU, GeorgianCapsU, GeorgianLSU, MtskhetaCapsU, MtskhetaTextU, TelaviCapsU, and TelaviTextU are trademarks of the Payne Loving Trust. 2. System Requirements a. Operating Systems: 1) Requires Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Windows 2000. 2) Requires installation of complex script Supplemental Language Support into Windows XP and 2000. Installation of this feature requires your original Windows XP or 2000 installation CD. Instructions are provided in the Setup Instructions document provided on the Start menu in the LaserGeorgianU program group. Supplemental Language Support is installed in Windows Vista by default and no further action is required in Windows Vista. b. Applications: 1) Requires any Unicode-compatible application, such as Microsoft Word 2007, 2003, 2002, 2000, or 97, or any component of Microsoft Office 97 or newer (except PowerPoint 97-2003, which are not compatible). Adobe InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite CS2 and newer, and QuarkXPress 7.0 and newer, are all Unicode-compatible. OpenOffice.org 3.0 and newer is Unicode-compatible. 2) Older, non-Unicode applications such as Word 95 or Word 6 are not compatible. Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe PageMaker, Corel WordPerfect and Lotus Word Pro are not compatible. QuarkXPress 6.5 and earlier are not compatible. c. Known problems: 1) Some of your applications' default settings must be changed to avoid unexpected results when using these fonts and keyboard software. Complete instructions for doing this in Word for Windows are provided in the document Customize Word Settings, provided on the Start menu in the LaserGeorgianU program group. 2) Decimal character 254 (þ–Latin small letter thorn) in the fonts can no longer be input (in Microsoft Office) using keyboard input, even if shown on the EnglishLS keyboard chart. The keystroke does not work in Word 2007, Word 2003, or Word 2002, but does work in older versions of Word, and in other tested programs. Character code input (Alt+0254) also does not work in these versions of Word. At this time there are three alternative ways to input these characters: 1) the user may use the Insert Symbol feature from the Word menu bar; 2) the user may type the characters in WordPad and copy and paste the characters into Word; or 3) the user may assign a Word shortcut to these characters. To assign a Word shortcut go to Insert Symbol [in Word 2007 now press "More Symbols"], select the small letter thorn, and press the "Shortcut key" button, and assign a shortcut (such as Ctrl+Shift+T) to the character. Microsoft has acknowledged this limitation but so far has provided no fix. 3) Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 (included in Microsoft Office 2003) is not compatible with LaserGeorgianU. All text is changed to the Arial font, whether typed with the keyboard, input using Insert Symbol, or pasted from Word using the Windows clipboard. PowerPoint users should type their text in Word or another Unicode-compatible application, and save the text as a graphic for import into PowerPoint. Users can also use WordArt to create their text. To do this in PowerPoint go to Insert, Picture, WordArt, and type your text, formatting it as desired. Alternatively, users can type directly into PowerPoint using our non-Unicode LaserGeorgian for Windows fonts, available separately from Linguist's Software. (Earlier versions of PowerPoint have not been tested for compatibility with LaserGeorgian in Unicode for Windows.) 3. Registering LaserGeorgianU for Windows a. Release History • Version 3.0 – November 27, 2009 • A new keyboard layout, GeorgianLSU KhutsuriCaps, has been added. This keyboard is like the GeorgianLSU Khutsuri keyboard, except it supports only the uppercase Asomtavruli (old ecclesiastical alphabet). The characters can therefore be typed without needing to press the Shift key. • The GeorgianLSU font was changed. Alternate forms of two uppercase Asomtavruli characters were added. • Documentation was updated. • Version 2.0 - February 3, 2009 • A new font (GeorgianCapsU) has been added to LaserGeorgianU. GeorgianCapsU is a headline font and supports the Mkhedruli modern secular Georgian alphabet, plus Mingrelian and Svan. Like GeorgianLSU it also includes the Latin 1 alphabet, supporting English and other western European Latin alphabets. • LaserGeorgian Professional in Unicode for Windows has been added as an optional upgrade from LaserGeorgian in Unicode for Windows. • LaserGeorgianU Professional includes the two fonts from LaserGeorgianU (GeorgianLSU and GeorgianCapsU), plus six additional fonts in three typestyles. • The BatumiTextU, MtskhetaTextU, and TelaviTextU fonts support the Mkhedruli modern secular Georgian alphabet, which is caseless. • The BatumiCapsU, MtskhetaCapsU, and TelaviCapsU fonts are headline fonts, supporting the Mkhedruli modern secular Georgian alphabet, plus Mingrelian and Svan. • All of the fonts include the Latin 1 alphabet, supporting English and other western European Latin alphabets. • The GeorgianLSU keyboards are unchanged, but the layout of the EnglishLS keyboard has been changed to allow easier input of accented Latin letters. • The requirement to install Microsoft complex script Supplemental Language Support into Windows XP and 2000 is now noted, and instructions for doing this are provided in the Setup Instructions. • Version 1.0 - November 10, 2005 • Initial release of LaserGeorgian in Unicode for Windows. • Requires Windows Vista, XP, or 2000 SP3, plus any Unicode-compatible application. • Requires complex script Supplemental Language Support installed into Windows XP or 2000. • Includes one Unicode-encoded, TrueType® Georgian font. GeorgianLSU includes the Mkhedruli modern secular Georgian alphabet, which is caseless, and the Khutsuri ecclesiastical Georgian alphabet, both the lowercase Nuskhuri and uppercase Asomtavruli. GeorgianLSU also includes additional letters in order to support Mingrelian and Svan. It also includes archaic letters dropped from the Georgian alphabet in the 1860s because they no longer corresponded to sounds of modern Georgian. • Includes four software keyboards: • The GeorgianLSU Phonetic layout for typing the modern Georgian secular alphabet following a phonetic keyboard layout based on the US layout; • The GeorgianLSU Khutsuri layout for typing the old Georgian ecclesiastical alphabet following a phonetic layout; • The GeorgianLSU keyboard layout for typing the modern Georgian secular alphabet following the modern Georgian computer layout; and • The EnglishLS layout for typing Latin 1 languages. • All documentation is in Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word format (either *.doc or *.rtf). • Setup Instructions • LaserGeorgianU Keyboards Manual • LaserGeorgianU User's Manual • LaserGeorgianU demonstration document • Troubleshooting Manual • Software License • Readme file (this file) • The product installs with an automated installer, which creates a Linguist's Software Program Group on the Windows Start menu. An uninstaller is included. .
