World Victory Church “Habitation of Devils” part 1&2 Sun June 28, 2020 Foundation Scripture: Revelation 18:1-5 I. Luke 9:1-6 / Luke 10:1-2, vs. 17-20 A. Authority over ALL devils 1. Who has this power, this ability, this right? 2. All devils – the subject, the understanding / there are many demons under satan’s control; we will study with diligence to unmask every one of them! B. Power & Authority 1. Power (Dunamis) – Force; miraculous ability and strength - Acts 1:8 “You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” 2. Authority (Exsousia) – Privilege; mastery, superhuman - Mark 1:22 “And they were astonished at his doctrine; for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.” C. Serpents, Scorpions, & the Enemy (Luke 10:17-20) 1. In context, Jesus gives us insight to the chain of command under satan - Serpents (higher ranking demons) - Scorpions (harassing demons / they are like stinging ants, bees, and “see me nots” or “no-see-ums”) - Ephesians 6:12 “principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places.” 2. You have God’s miraculous ability and strength; and you have the privilege through the name of Jesus to be superhuman over every demon, every stronghold, every unclean spirit in this world! II. satan – Who is He? / What is He? A. Ezekiel 28:11-19 1. He was one of 3 high ranking angels in heaven (Gabriel, Michael, & ?) 2. Lucifer? – Sad to say, Lucifer has never been satan’s name. When the Bible was translated from the original Hebrew, the translators had trouble with this word “halal” / they decided to translate through their Latin familiarity and the name Lucifer came out of this translation…. The actual translation is this: “How you have fallen from heaven O shining one (star of the morning)…” - This agrees with what Jesus said, “I beheld satan fall as lightning (shining one)” - Notice also, in II Corinthians 11:14, satan is transformed as an angel of light. - satan was the anointed cherub with a magnificent array of beauty and musical ability. (Michael is the archangel, chief warrior, and Gabriel is the chief messenger who stands in the presence of God). - In the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses….Michael and Gabriel are mentioned in both the O.T. & N.T., but “Lucifer” is mentioned in only this verse. - This makes perfect sense why the Bible does not reveal satan’s original given name….He is only recognized by His fallen names. B. Unmasking satan (Adversary, Opponent, Accuser) 1. Serpent & Dragon (Genesis 3:1, II Corinthians 11:3, Revelation 12:9) – Deceitful and Cunning 2. Abaddon or Apollyon (Destroyer) 3. Accuser of the brethren 4. Beelzebub/Belial 5. Deceiver, Devil, Enemy, Evil One 6. God of this world, Prince of this world, Prince of the power of the air 7. Liar, Father of Lies, Murderer 8. Roaring Lion (I Peter 5:8) – satan cannot take anything from you without “legal” access. He needs a door to gain entrance; thus the reason we must “give no place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:27) 9.
