Universitat Permanent Universidad Permanente NAME OF THE SUBJECT: FLORA MICRO-RESERVES NETWORK IN THE COMARCAS OF LA MARINA ALTA, LA MARINA BAIXA AND EL COMTAT TEACHER: Manuel Vicedo Martínez.............................. [email protected] Juan Antonio Marco Molina ....................................... [email protected] ACADEMIC YEAR: 2013-2014 OBJECTIVES: Getting to know the endemic, rare or threatened vegetation in the northern comarcas of the Alicante province through the new legal figure for the protection of habitats and vegetal species known as ‘Flora micro-reserve’. Following the European Directive 92/43 CEE, the Generalitat Valenciana (regional government) has created a dense network of small areas (259 all over the Valencian Autonomous Community) in which can be found the most genuine habitats and species, the conservation of which is a priority. The objective of this subject is to become familiar with the 45 micro-reserves existing in the comarcas of Marina Alta, La Marina Baixa and El Comtat through their study in the classroom, with audiovisual projections which will inform about their situation, characteristics, habitats and species of priority interest, management, actions for their conservation and use limitations in each one of them, along with some field practical activities during which we will visit as many as many of these areas as possible. METHODOLOGY: The subject will include sessions in the classroom (theory) and field practice (visits to vegetal micro-reserves). During the classroom sessions, attention will be paid to the Directive 92/43 CEE and its application in the Valencian Community with the creation of the legal figure of Flora Micro-reserve. After that, we will identify the 45 micro-reserves created in the three Northern comarcas of the Alicante province (La Marina Alta, La Marina Baixa and El Comtat), with the help of abundant audiovisual materials, including a number of presentations and many photographs. In some of these sessions, we will carry out a small research work trying to find as much information as possible on the Internet about species and habitats of priority interest. In the practical part, at least three field trips will be organised to visit as many of the micro-reserves studied as possible and thus to see and take pictures of the species and habitats that are protected in each one of these reserves. METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: The evaluation will be based on the percent level of attendance to the classes, a minimum of 80 % of the time corresponding to the theoretical sessions and the practical field work required. SUBJECT SYLLABUS: 1st) THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK 1. European Directives. Comarca of La Marina Alta. Study of the 26 micro-reserves created in this comarca and the 44 species of priority interest 2. Comarca of La Marina Baixa. Study of the 8 micro-reserves created in this comarca and the 30 species of priority interest 3. Comarca of El Comtat. Study of the 11 micro-reserves created in this comarca and the 29 species of priority interest 3rd) RESEARCH IN THE CLASSROOM 1. Search for information on the Internet. Complementing the contents provided during the classes looking for information on the Internet about the species of priority interest in the comarca 2. Elaboration of a personal file of the species studied 4th) FIELD PRACTICE 1. Field trips. At least 3 trips will be made to the following micro-reserves: Cala Bassetes (Benissa) and Cala Fustera (Benissa) La Granadella (Xàbia) Penyal d’Ifac (Calp) BASIC BIBLIOGRAPHY: - E. Laguna, M.B.
