Extremely robust – rotproof – safe, even in case of heavy snow loads – frostproof Fire behAvior Fiber cement is non-flammable (as per ÖnOrM en 13501-1: class a2-s1, d0) . Fiber cement does not melt and, in case of fire, does not produce any harmful fumes . ENvironmental DECLARATION epd as per isO 14025 toscana roofing sheets from eternit-werke ludwig hatschek ag are recognized as being environmentally compatible and sustainable by an environmental product declaration from the iBu (institut Bauen und umwelt e .v .) . ENvironment Fiber cement is composed of natural raw materials, such as cement and cellulose, that are absolutely harmless ecologically and of no danger to health (no asbestos) . Disposal Fiber cement is considered as "solid mineral waste" (waste key number 31409) and must be disposed of accordingly . Hidden benefits – no drumming effect during rain such as in the case of metal roofs – no electrostatic charging – no disruption of mobile phone networks, radar waves (near airports) 4 ROOFING edition: august 2013 Roof THE ROOF COnstructiOn „A roof over your head“ has many functions and tasks to fulfill. It should provide optimum protection from all climatic influences, while also being subjected to heavy loads and strains due to ever-changing weather conditions. A good roof must therefore be frost-, storm- and rainproof and at times it must also be able to bear a heavy snow load. In all of its various shapes, constructions, systems and materials, it is the roof, and above all the upper boundaries of the building, that due to its form decisively decides the character of the building. And moreover: shapes of roofs, structures and even the roofing material itself determine the appearance of whole villages and districts. Steep roofs are normally to be constructed as ventilated flat roof constructions: – underlayment – ventilated attic area Installing an underlayment is essential for converted attics! Make sure that there are sufficient air inlet openings at the gutter as well as air outlet openings in the area around the ridge and hip! Sufficient thermal insulation of the slanted roof and the ceilings must be taken into account. ÖNORM B 7219, B 7215 and ONR 22219-2 apply to the construction. underlayment Ventilated attic area Depending on the design and the requirements, a difference is A sarking membrane is recommended if there is a danger of wind- made between: driven snow. – a rainproof underlayment – an underlayment for increased rain protection VEnTilated FlaT roof TABLE 01: AIR INLET AND OUTLET OPENINGS IN CM², PER METER OF EAvES DEPENDING ON RAFTER LENGTh rafter length roof pitch roof pitch roof pitch roof pitch roof pitch ≤ 10° > 10° - 15° > 15° - 20° > 20° - 25° > 25° inlet air Outlet air inlet air Outlet air inlet air Outlet air inlet air Outlet air inlet air Outlet air ≤ 5 m 100 120 90 110 80 100 70 90 60 80 > 5 m - 10 m 200 240 180 220 160 200 140 180 120 160 > 10 m - 15 m 300 360 270 330 240 300 210 270 180 240 > 15 m - 20 m 400 480 360 440 320 400 280 360 240 320 > 20 m - 25 m 500 600 450 540 400 480 350 420 300 360 AIR INLET AND OUTLET openings (without numerical proof) 5 roofing edition: august 2013 Underlayment this double-shell roof technology with rear ventilation has many advantages: – protection from water infiltration (ice accumulation, damage to the roof covering) – prevention of wind-driven snow from entering – short, temporary roof during the construction phase – effective prevention of such problems as condensation or heat accumulation – the integrated thermal insulation also helps to save valuable heating energy . ÖnOrM B 3419, ÖnOrM B 2215, and ÖnOrM B 4119 apply to the design . - Underlayment: installation of an underlayment is mandatory for converted lofts and/or if the pitch of the selected roof covering falls below the regulation roof pitch . this is also the case if special climatic or structural conditions are present (e .g . long rafter lengths) . it forms an essential intermediate layer and must be capable of assuming the functions of the main roof, at least temporarily . a sarking membrane (e .g . consisting of plastic sheeting, etc .) is not permitted for loft conversions . - ventilation space: Cold roofs must have aeration at the eaves and appropriate deaeration in the ridge area; they may also require openings in the gable ends for transverse ventilation . On the one hand, roof ventilation solves the problem of residual vapor diffusion; on the other, it achieves thermal separation between the building and the weather skin when used in conjunction with heat insulation . the cold outside air enters at the eaves and sweeps towards the ridge due to the thermal effect . at the same time, it discharges any moisture present via the ridge vent, thereby preventing any condensation on the underside of the roof . - Thermal insulation: the thermal insulation is placed between and beneath the rafters or on exposed shuttering (over-rafter insulation) and should be sufficiently thick . provide for a ventilation space of at least 3 cm above the thermal insulation in the case of diffusion-resistant roofing . depending on the usage/requirement, a vapor retarder or vapor barrier should be installed . the interior wall covering can then be applied, using gypsum plasterboard, wood paneling, etc . 1 rafters 2 timber planking 3 roof or sealing membrane (open or sealed to diffusion) 4 Counter battens 5 support battens 6 toscana roofing sheet 7 thermal insulation Roof construction 6 possibilities for air outlet openings edition: august 2013 ridge and hip an adequate air outlet opening at the ridge and hip is of great significance for functional rear ventilation and building physics . the air outlet openings can be fulfilled with single ventilators and/or with raised ridge or hip formations (particularly in the case of long rafter lengths and low roof pitch) . Aluminum ventilator panel (ventilation cross-section: approx . 50 cm² each . Single ventilator Aluminum ridge and hip roll Ridge with flashing tile and ridge grille (ventilation cross-section: approx . 95 cm²/m per roof side) (ventilation cross-section: see details on page 14) Raised ridge and hip design 7 GENERAL FITTING instructions - Toscana edition: august 2013 DESIGN roof coverings must be designed according to ÖnOrM B 3419, taking water drainage into account . the design of the roof covering must be rainproof . INSPECTION Only professionals are permitted to walk on the roof covering . Walkway grilles or footboards must be attached for carrying out other roof-top maintenance and repair work (e .g . chimney sweeping) . AIR OUTLET OPENING exhaust air exhaust air You must ensure that there are adequate air outlet openings at the ridge and hip, e .g . with ventilators, raised ridge, etc . air intake air intake STORAGE / transport without exception, fiber cement products are delivered ex works with suitable weather protection (e .g . plastic foil) . it is essential that this protection remains in place during transportation and any unroofed storage . pallets must be stored on an even surface! toscana roofing sheets must be transported and stored horizontally in stacks! Installation / ShEET ARRANGEMENT toscana roofing sheets are generally laid as a sharp-edged sheets must be used at the surrounding edges . left-hand covering (from right to left) . in the center, toscana roofing sheets are installed with clipped left-hand corners . toscana roofing sheets with clipped left-hand corners sharp-edged toscana roofing sheets ChALk LINE striking a vertical chalk line is required for installation .
