Strategic SSI - Afghanistan DAILY SITUATION REPORT 10 JUNE 2010 SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUES RELEVANT TO SSSI PERSONNEL AND CLIENTS Various ongoing Threat Reports were received of possible attacks in Kabul over the past few days, and the insurgent’s intent and capability to conduct attacks in the Kabul City remains elevated. There are daily Threat Reports, but the received reports are mainly generic and lacking detail. It is possible that suicide attacks and indirect fire attacks can be expected in the city, but no time frames and/or specific targets were reported. Any attack in the city can be seen as a success for the insurgents, and they will make maximum use of the propaganda value of such an attack. SECURITY INCIDENTS REPORTED FOR PERIOD 09 TO 10 JUN 10 CENTRAL REGION Ambush: 8 Jun, Ghazni Prov, Ander Distr, it is reported that insurgents, deployed in multiple positions, ambushed an PSC escorted vehicle movement in which numerous casualties were sustained. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan IED: 8 Jun, Ghazni Prov, Ab Band Distr, It is reported that an IED detonated striking a passing PSC escorted vehicle movement in which numerous injuries were sustained. IED: 9 Jun, Ghazni Prov, Qarabach Distr, Ganj area. It is reported that during the morning, an IED detonated striking a passing ANP patrol vehicle in which three members were killed and another two sustained injuries. IED Discovery: 8 Jun, Wardak Prov, Daymirdad Distr, Safid Koh area. It is reported during a routine ANP patrol, members discovered two separate IEDs that had been emplaced in the said area. Rocket Attack: 8 Jun, Wardak Prov, Saydabad Distr, Dasht e Tawp area. It is reported that at approximately 12:30, insurgents fired two rockets on the ANP’s RTC in which No injuries or damages where inflicted. Rocket Attack: 8 Jun, Logar Prov, Pul e Alam District. It is reported that during the night, insurgents fired a rocket in the said area in which no injuries or damages were inflicted. IED Discovery: 8 Jun Kapisa Prov, Mahmud e Raqi Distr, Pol e Mahmud Alam Kheyl & Ashur Kheyl areas. It is reported that during routine ANP patrols, members discovered separate IEDs emplaced within the two areas. WESTERN REGION Operation: 8 Jun, Badghis Prov, Morghab Distr. It is reported that during a planned joint operation IM/ANSF captured seven insurgents, killed 23 while another 21 sustained injuries. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan NORTHERN REGION Intimidation: 8 Jun, Samangan Prov, Aybak Distr, Araban village & surrounding areas. It is reported that a large group of insurgents have relocated to the said area and are threatening the residents not to participate in the 18 Sep 2010 elections. Ambush/Kidnapping: 8 Jun, Balkh Prov, Nahr e Shahi Distr, Siyeh Gerd area. It is reported that unknown armed men ambushed the vehicle of a school inspector and four teachers in the said area, were after the four occupants were released with the exception of the school inspector who was abducted. Ambush: 8 Jun, Baghlan Prov, Dahaneh ye Ghowri Distr, Deshtak area. It is reported that during the late morning, insurgents armed with RPGs, heavy and small arms ambushed an ANP convoy in which subsequent to a drawn out engagement one member was killed and another injured while at least one insurgent was killed. Ambush: 9 Jun, Kunduz Prov, Alibad Distr, Komandan Mahud Kheyl area. It is reported that during the morning, Insurgents armed with RPGs, heavy & small arms ambushed a Joint IM/ANSF vehicle patrol in which no injuries were sustained. Insurgency: 9 Jun, Kunduz Prov, Kunduz City. It is reported that insurgents are planning an attack on the ANP RTC in Kunduz, similar to the attack that took place in Kandahar on 8 June 2010. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan EASTERN REGION IED: 9 Jun, Nangarhar Prov, Sorkh Rod Distr, Hwy #7 (Kabul – Torkham). It is reported that vigilant members of the ANP observed a magnetic IED had been attached to a fuel tanker and it was timiously removed. Insurgency: 9 Jun, Nangarhar Prov, Jalalabad City. It is reported that six suicide bombers are in the process of relocating from Pakistan via Torkham Border post to Jalalabad, supported by a VBIED where they plan to attack the Regional training Base. Ambush: 7 Jun, Kunar Prov, Narang Distr, Badel Valley. It is reported that during the evening, insurgents ambushed an IM vehicle patrol in which no injuries were reported. Ambush: 9 Jun, Kunar Prov, Chowkay Distr, Sibahullah Haq area. It is reported that insurgents, armed with RPGs and small arms, ambushed an ANP vehicle patrol in which one member sustained injuries. Strategic SSI - Afghanistan SOUTH EASTERN REGION Operation: 9 Jun, Paktya Prov, Chamkani Distr. It is reported that during a planned ANA operation in the said area, one significant insurgent commander was arrested and another six insurgents were killed. Ambush: 8 Jun, Khost Prov, Do Mandeh Distr, Gandeh area. It is reported that insurgents armed with RPGs and small arms ambushed an IM vehicle patrol in which no injuries were sustained.
