Further Reading: 99 Poets This by no means exhaustive list of poets who, if not all currently alive, at least lived into the twenty-first century (Barry MacSweeney and Douglas Oliver died in 2000), is meant as a prompt for further reading for those curious to discover more about contemporary British “modernist” poetry. For reasons of space (not to men- tion ignorance), the list can only be at best provisional, and in particular cannot do justice to the proliferation of work by young poets, although much of this work can be found in the more recent of the anthologies we list. Wherever possible, collected poems have been used, in its most up-to-date edi- tion; more recent volumes are also included. For poets without a collected edition, we have provided what we think to be a representative sample of their work. We also provide poets’ blogs.
