As what has been stated and being guided by its quality policy, BGH remained true to its commitment towards holistic, excellent, efficient W and equitable medical care and other services towards total patient and customer satisfaction through continuous implementation of quality management system processes to ensure quality medical health care and services in the province of Bataan. Moreover, here are some of the hospital’s milestones highlighting the parade of successes it has achieved through the years dated back from its genesis until now while thriving with the presence of challenges in modern times marching towards its 76th founding anniversary in the provision of quality health care and medical services to satisfy all its patients in need. A glimpse into its antiquity The humble beginning of Bataan General Hospital, formerly known as Bataan Provincial Hospital can be traced back on November 30, 1941 when the institution was first built. Ten days after the outbreak of Second World War; BGH as a primary health care provider catered the people and served as a war hospital during the Japanese invasion in the province of Col. Iku Takasaki. Initially, the hospital had a 20 bed capacity with a total number of 17 personnel and had been accessible to the public in year 1942. Despite of insurgencies thereafter that afflicted many people, this cause never became a hindrance for BGH as the hospital achieved unceasing development and improvement with regards to the infrastructure and manpower resources through the initiative of political leaders, governors and congressmen in year 1950. In the 1960s, it marked an increased of the bed capacity from 20 to 150 and was further increased to 200-bed capacity through the hospitals’ integration with the provincial health office in year 1983. In year 1991, BGH was then entrusted to the province of Bataan in lieu of the enactment of Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code, and eventually been upgraded in year 1998 by virtue of Republic Act 8561, making the Bataan Provincial Hospital into a Tertiary Level II Hospital elevating its bed capacity to 350. This transition was made possible under the direct control, supervision and management of the Department of Health. Two years after, inauguration of Emergency Room-Out Patient Department Complex was constructed and in year 2008, it created its first Memorandum of Agreement between the province of Bataan and Department of Health with both parties together runs BGH with at least 25% fund increment. The pioneering years: BGH Growth and Expansion Having been guided by its set quality objectives, BGH had embraced its dedication to continually improve provision of health care to all patients through customer’s active participation, improve availability and accessibility of health care services and facilities, improve its manpower including enhancement and development of the knowledge, skills and characters of all the employees and staff through valuable trainings and seminars, establish research and development program within the hospital, and lastly, produce physicians trained in different fields of specialization. BGH’s ultimate goal in delivering and providing excellent medical services for the people of Bataan was attained as the institution strived for various International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certifications dated in year 2014, wherein BGH passed the ISO 9001:2008 certification and had upped its level of accreditation as the hospital has been the first agency in Central Luzon to receive the 2015 version of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) with no non-conformance reports and been recertified for QMS last May 22, 2017. The ISO certification became evident to have found that there has been desirable improvement and vast development within the operational services and processes taken in the institution as it continuously thrives for advances in modern technology, changing needs of the economy, meeting such rapid demands of the community and an ever increasing population of its patients, BGH continues to uphold that standard implementation and fulfillment of such must solely adheres to all mandatory, constitutional and regulatory requirements in correspondence with the provision of Universal health care. 3 BGH Life and Health Today Vol.
