There are a number of reasons for this but the main ones are: Some employers decided to pay more money in to the Fund in previous years so they could reduce their payments later on. Some employers paid less in previous years which means their payments are now higher. Each employer joined the Pension Fund at a different time. Contributions are invested in financial markets (such as the London Stock Exchange) but if an employer joined the Fund when investments weren’t performing very well their contributions would have to be increased in later years to compensate. Some employers don’t let new employees join the LGPS which usually means they have to pay much more into the Pension Fund to pay off any deficit they may have. How does this compare to what you pay? Have a look at the table below. Contribution Bands effective from 1 April 2015 Band Range Contribution Rate 1 Up to £13,600 5.5% 2 £13,601 to £21,200 5.8% 3 £21,201 to £34,400 6.5% 4 £34,401 to £43,500 6.8% 5 £43,501 to £60,700 8.5% 6 £60,701 to £86,000 9.9% 7 £86,001 - £101,200 10.5% 8 £101,201 - £151,800 11.4% 9 £151,801 12.5% V5_May 15 .
