Adjournment 3 PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2016-2017 As President of CURLSASK, I embarked on a mission to promote and develop curling in Saskatchewan. I was dedicated to improving the image of curling and provide leadership to the CURLSASK Board of Directors and the CURLSASK Executive Director. Together, we continually assessed and improved our services and programs for the curling community. Perhaps one year is not enough time to make a difference. Perhaps it is. With dedication and commitment, we were able to achieve many of the goals we had set forth for my year as President. I tactfully dealt with the flipped out turns that came my way and took great pride in celebrating the perfect draws to the pin that we experienced as a sport governing body. Contributing to my success was the exemplary mentorship and guidance I received from Past-President, Dennis Smith. Dennis allowed me to grow as a leader and, through open and transparent communication, made sure that I was ready to hit the ice sliding when it was my turn to throw. My working relationship with incoming President, Mitch Minken, is second to none. My weaknesses were overcome by his strengths and vice versa. We were a powerful team both provincially and nationally. Together, we lead CURLSASK to put the best interest of curling front and center in every decision we made. Although my car may complain, the hours spent driving to events, meetings, and sendoffs paid off in exponential dividends as I made many new friends and acquaintances. I did my best to help our members to understand the purpose of CURLSASK, the future of CURLSASK and how CURLSASK benefits them as a member. With the support of my fiancé, Brad Bibby, I was able to focus on making connections with our members while he ate pasta and sauce night after night. I look at the nasty emails, phone calls, text messages, cracks on Twitter and the odd threat to be sued, as a positive reflection of my approachability and willingness to listen and work with player members and member clubs. Together, we are all yearning for the growth and development of curling in Saskatchewan and together it is happening. Although some clubs are seeing a decline in their number of members, other are seeing an improvement. Many clubs are seeing the benefit of junior programs as their young stars are starting to shine on the provincial and national stage. There is nothing better than handing out a green jacket. Period. CURLSASK is not just a job for our employees. It is a passion. They live, eat and breathe curling
