But the amulet drew the attention of Victor Von Doom and Doctor Strange, the latter of whom warned Conan of its dangerous power. Together, the trio tracked Kulan Gath to Egypt. In a battle that nearly cost Strange his life, he discovered that Gath’s amulet was a fake, but it bore a curse that Conan was able to turn against Kulan Gath. Along with Elektra, Strange began gathering a team needed to defeat Kulan Gath——permanently. First they arranged a trade of souls between Daniel Drumm and his sibling Doctor Voodoo to bring the latter back to life.
