Many WOSU employees stepped up and performed incredibly during the tumultuous year 2020. Among those who adapted and thrived, WOSU News Managing Editor Steve Brown stood out. For 3 months, due to COVID protocols, Steve got up at 3am, arrived at a vacant newsroom and delivered the latest news to 89.7 NPR News listeners with authority and empathy. Then as the pandemic eased a bit, protests erupted in downtown Columbus after the death of George Floyd. Then came the statehouse bribery scandal. Then the election. Then another surge in COVID cases. He not only led the newsroom to extraordinary coverage of an extraordinary year, but he also led by example.
