A few of the Twin Cities’ aspiring leaders, ages 18-30, will be selected to become Public Allies and participate in a 10-month, nonprofit apprenticeship program. Allies are challenged to look at leadership in new and different ways. Each Ally completes 1,700 service hours through Direct Service Placements, Team Service Projects, and Leadership Training. They will receive a $1,500/month living stipend and, upon graduation, a $5,550 education award. Public Allies is an AmeriCorps program that focuses on strengthening communities and young leaders. There are three components to the Public Allies experience: the Apprenticeship, Leadership Training and Development, and Team Service Project. The apprenticeship places Allies in a direct service position at a local nonprofit, school, or government agency. Allies remain in the same position for the 10-month duration of the program. Every Friday, Allies will participate in training and development sessions on a variety of topics. Public Allies Program Staff as well as community leaders and independent trainers will facilitate training sessions. The team service projects are projects of direct service created, developed, and implemented by teams of Allies. Allies will work on their projects during Monday training days. The living stipend is $15,000 over the course of the 10-months. Allies are eligible for health insurance, and may also qualify for childcare, and student loan forbearance. Upon completion of the program, Allies will receive a post-service education award of $5,550. Looking for more information?
