This Program’s aim was to provide financial support to increase the use of renewable generation in remote parts of Australia. Earlier this month, federal authorities managing that Program advised that it could no longer assist as all the funding allocated to Norfolk Island – some $4,000,000 in total – had now been fully committed in rebates to Norfolk Island residents. However, the Office of the Administrator confirmed today that it had been advised that the Australian Government will continue to support small scale renewable energy installations on Norfolk Island through the national Renewable Energy Target scheme. The new arrangements – known as Solar Credits - are not intended to replace support under the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program. Assembly of Norfolk Island on this very important occasion. “As we all know, Hazel has been a very important part of this Norfolk Island community and I would like to outline some of her history”. “Hazel Violet Martin was born in Auckland on 1st June 1909, daughter of William John and Alice Maude Wood. The family’s next door neighbour, Norfolk born Augusta Anne Emily Nobbs, daughter of Francis Mason Nobbs and Harriet Augusta (nee Quintal), was asked to be her Godmother. Emily was married to Captain Francis Theet, Master of the Mission Ship, ‘Southern Cross’. So in her early life she has had a connection with Norfolk Island. Hazel was a lover of ballroom dancing and it was on the dance floor that she met her husband, the late Alfred Robert Martin. They were married in 1935 and had two daughters - Anne (Mrs. Courtenay) and Lorraine (Mrs. Utting). Alf was on Norfolk with the New Zealand forces during World War II. He and Hazel returned here in 1968 when Alf, a Three Birthday Cakes and a painter by trade, arrived to paint 5 houses for Borry Evans, the then agent for Beazley Homes.
