Tucker Maxon School Annual Report 2015-16 Dear Tucker Maxon School community, We had another very successful year in 2015–16. We had 110 students, with 31 children who are deaf and 79 children with typical hearing. We started the year by unveiling our wonderful new monument sign in front of the school. We added new staff including Rick Sorensen, Laura Pierce and Emelia Wessel. We strengthened our Board with the addition of Lee Vandegrift, Jim Knutsen, John Lenz, Cathleen Robart, Mary Hull, Homer Chin and Christi Sperry. Tucker Maxon was named to the Top 100 Nonprofits in Oregon list for the first time in our history. We revolutionized our student access to technology with 36 new Chromebook computers. We purchased five LENA digital recorders and software to help our Early Intervention families obtain their language goals. Our annual end-of-the-year appeal Jennifer Lootens, M Ed and auction set new fundraising records, and a generous donor helped put a new roof on kindergarten and the library. KATU TV profiled principal Linda Goodwin as an Everyday Hero in the Portland community. Our soil, water and air all passed safety tests in the latter half of the school year after city-wide concerns at PPS and in the neighborhood. On a lighter note, students voted for tigers Tuck and Max as the new school mascots. Finally, we ended the year in a very strong financial position (see page 2).
