
Thanksgiving Day ACE Club Presentation What Is It? • BIG HOLIDAY! • Celebrated every second Monday of October (Canada) • Time to eat, relax and spend time with the family • Also celebrated in the U.S. every fourth Thursday of November Background Started out as two celebrations, courtesy of Martin Frobisher and Samuel de Champlain Immigrants and locals celebrated both events and as Canada grew, it eventually became one! Traditions People get together with their families They hold a big meal, which is the Thanksgiving meal. Some provinces have parades to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Eating and Having a good time ^^ Similar Holidays Chuseok (Korea)– Thanks to God for good harvest / Ganggangsulle Erntedankfest (Germany) – Celebrated after Oktoberfest Dōngzhì(China) - Have Tangyuan and Jiuniang and perform ancestor worship, Feast day, family gatherings, also named "Chinese Thanksgiving" Things To Do Celebrate with homestay family/friends Travel to other provinces, or even outside Canada Invite friends to your own party Go to church, if you like Eat, relax, and ENJOY!!!! Have your meal before Thanksgiving You can have anything, not just turkey As long as you have CASH, it’s all GOOD How To Order Food Call fast food delivery Go to restaurants Buy food from grocery market Basic Order Example Operator: Hello Pizza 73, may I take your order? You: I’d like to have a 14-inch Pepperoni pizza, and a 14-inch Hawaiian pizza. Operator: What dips or sides would you like with your order? You: I’d like 20 chicken wings. No dips please. Operator: Any drinks? You: I’ll have a Large Coke please. Operator: Is that everything? You: Yes. Basic Order Example Operator: What’s your address? Phone # You: <say your address/phone #> Operator: The total comes to <total price of your order>. How are you paying? You: Debit / Cash / Credit card. Operator: It’ll be there within 30 minutes. Thank you for ordering. You: Thank you, good bye. Tips and Pointers If you don’t understand the server’s words, just ASK. Read the restaurant’s menu on the internet If server asks too early, tell him/her “Give me a few more minutes please.” Tips and Pointers If you want to stay longer after eating, tell your server ◦ “Can we stay here longer?” Don’t be nervous!
