I also was the 8th European athlete to finish, moving up 4 places from last year’s 12th at the Europeans in Zurich. So there were some positives and obvious development. It has shown just how far I have come, that I can finish 24th at Worlds and be disappointed. It took me 4 days to recover before I was able to do much, so I have no doubt I gave it 100% on race day and would like to dedicate my Tom Bosworth’s World Championship Adventure first World Championships to my coach of 6 years Andi Drake who The Beijing World Athletics Championships is something I have was unable to be here in Beijing. I moved up half the field as we made our way out to Overall I've experienced a lot. The race taught me so much to take the 1k loop on the road outside of the stadium. I felt terrible. I just kept pulling out the laps, on a course which I assuming all goes to plan. However, these dreams have started to really loved as it felt so quick. I was so angry with myself that I pushed on and on. But I had nothing left. The sun allowed a fast 15k but the final 5k it punished me. I was relieved to finish. I was so distraught to see the time of 1:23:58. Well over 22mins for the final 5k. Gutted, I lay on the track trying not to cry. I got up and knew I'd have to speak with the BBC but didn't want to. I Race Walking Record – August 2015 In last event of the day, the M60’s, were coach, judge and athlete Chris Hobbs (Ashford AC) and Malcolm Martin (Surrey WC). Chris finished in the frustrating 4th place with a time of 26:03.17 but had the satisfaction of beating New Zealander Mike Parker, well known to many in the UK from his time here, who recorded a time of 26:05.63. Malcolm finished in 13th in 27:57.22, another step in his rapid progress from runner to a very good race walker. Interestingly Alfons Schwarz from Germany a 3:57 50km man, who competed in many major championships in the 70s, finished 20th in 30:30.02 showing success in the past is no guarantee of success when you age. Many struggle with today’s leg straightening rules. Reports adapted from Facebook postings by Ian Richards Women’s (Fri. 7th Aug.): No medals for the ladies in the extreme There were over 8000 athletes in Lyon for the World Masters heat but some good and inspirational performances, like that of 82 Athletic Championships including over 500 race walkers from all year old Muriel Ramsell (Abingdon AC) who only took up race th over the world, including thirty-five in the British team of 600.
