The Airport received the award on February 22 at the Association’s annual award ceremony. “We are very pleased our project was recognized by the Michigan Concrete Association,” said Jeffrey Tripp, Muskegon County Airport Manager. “This project was successful through close coordination in the design and construction phases by the airport’s engineer (Prein & Newhof), prime contractor (Florence Cement Co.), subcontractors, airport staff, and airport tenants.” The Apron project was the final phase of a $3 million program to rehabilitate the parking area used by commercial, cargo, corporate, and general aviation aircraft. Program funding was provided through grants from the FAA Airport Improvement Program (95%), MDOT Aeronautics (2.5%), and 2.5% County funds. The concrete pavement will provide long- term, low-maintenance surface for the highest traffic use area on the airport. The Muskegon project competed against 70 other projects submitted for consideration.
