A successful tournament for the Mortgage Force veterans with plenty of laughs, sledging and bevies - a good time was had by all. The victorious Mortgage Force Twenty20 Veterans After having a false start a few weeks earlier when the game was postponed thanks to some bright spark leaving sprinklers on at Gepps Cross we finally got the 20/20 grand final under way. A couple of unfortunate withdrawals saw the inclusion of CJ and the Ox, who flew in from Perth to be part of the day. In Brooksy with the Twenty20 trophy sensational conditions the skipper again lost the toss and we were sent into the field on a postage stamp size WALKERVILLE CRICKET NEWS ground. Congratulations to Georgie Vass and his wife on the birth of their son William, mother, baby and Georgie are doing just fine. Ladies Day was a smashing success with many of the wives and girlfriends enjoying in the clubs hospitality. Host Paul ‘Wooley’ Reid did a fantastic job running the Ox showing the form that claimed him four victims event. Special thanks to Paul and Shaun for the work in the Twenty20 Grand Final against Unley they put into getting the event off the ground. Thanks also to Georgie and Lampy for donating gifts for the girls This Friday the Cricket Club takes on the Soft Ball club in the first inter-club challenge. There is a trophy up for grabs but more importantly bragging rights! The first event is lawn bowls at the Walkerville bowls club. There are only a few spots left so if you are keen on a fun Friday night then see Shaun or Leo to register. Meals are served from 6 and the event is looking to kick off at 6.45. The weather will be fine for this outdoor event. During the week a number of club members had the opportunity to go to the 75th Dinner Anniversary of the Adelaide Turf. This was a great night with ex-test player and now ex Redback player Matt Elliott as the guest speaker. It doesn’t matter how many fielders you put there The night went extremely well with many past players BJ will still find a way to play his square drives and officials catching up and reliving old times. Walkerville oval will be hosting two games for the Country Carnival. On Wednesday the 20th and Friday THE MASTER AND THE APPRENTICE the 22nd of February. After the Friday match presentations will be held up in the Walkerville club rooms which the cricket club will be hosting. If your free and willing to lend a hand to serve some food then it would be greatly appreciated. The veterans 20/20 side won their Grand final against Unley. The side dominated the competition and gratefully accepted the broken trophy that Rick Darling presented to captain Craig Brooks. The teams sponsor Corey ‘Ox’ Drew even managed to fly in from Perth and find himself a spot in the team!! Who’s the master and who’s the apprentice???? “Go the Cats!” Leo Panzarino ROUND 9 A1 PREMIER – ROUND 9 VS POORAKA AT WALKERVILLE An overcast, warm day greeted the boys for their contest against Pooraka at home. Due to the conditions and a bit of an up and down pitch after winning yet another toss (casino here I come) we sent the Pooraka’s boys in. Will and Iggy started well in particular Maxy who was proving difficult to handle.
