The island is centrally located to several 'development centres', such as Burswood Peninsular, Claisebrook Cove, the proposed Belmont Park redevelopment and the East Perth Riverside project. All of these projects house, or are anticipated to house, significant numbers of new residents, all within walking or cycling distance of Heirisson Island. Many of these residents will traverse the island daily when commuting to and from work in the city. The island is also surrounding by high quality public open space, with Burswood and McCallum Park to the East and Point Fraser and Langley Park to the west.
