Each golf course would have been memorable in its own right but when you play five of the world’s top 30 course in eight days its hard to explain what kind of experience this provided for each of us. This was truly a lifetime gift that gave our current players a lifetime of memories and is a trip that every Seminole golfer can look forward to during their Florida State career.”– Trey Jones he Florida State men’s golf team enjoyed the trip of a lifetime as five members of the team played nine of the world’s most historic golf courses including Royal Turnbury and the St.Andrew’s Old and New Courses in August of 2003. Trey Jones,Florida State’s first- year head coach, made the trip with senior Tim Vickers, juniors Matt Adcock,Rusty Mosley and Mark Sestilio along with sopho- more Adam Wallace and assistant coach Mark Donaldson. Carl Domino,a Florida State University alumnus and current member Tof the State of Florida House of Representatives, endowed the trip as he has many others like it for the Seminole men’s and women’s golf teams. Unless I’m playing in the British Open, I don’t think I’ll have the chance to play those courses again. As you approach the first tee at St. Andrews, you know how much history there is but you can’t help be more excited than you have ever been on the golf course. It was definitely the experience of a lifetime.” – Junior Mark Sestilio FSU MEN’S GOLF MEDIA GUIDE MEDIA INFORMATION Florida State University Men’s Golf 2002-03 Best Finishes Mission Mason Rudolph Collegiate . .7th of 9 Quick Facts Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate . .T8th of 12 Statement The Mission of the Name of School . .Florida State University ACC Championship . .8th of 9 Department of Intercollegiate City/Zip . .Tallahassee,Fla.32316 Palmetto Intercollegiate . .9th of 15 Athletics at The Florida State Founded . .1851 2002-03 ACC Finish University shall be to produce Enrollment . .35,462 Uwharrie Point,N.C. .8th of 9 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division Symbol . .Seminoles Sports Information Quick Facts Assistant A.D.for Media and Public Relations . .Rob Wilson I programs for men and School Colors . .Garnet (PMS 202) and Gold (PMS 123) women that are character- Associate SID for Men’s Golf . .Chuck Walsh Course . .Don Veller Seminole Golf Course ized by excellence. In addi- Walsh’s Sports Information Office Phone . .(850) 644-1077 tion, the Department strives to Yards/Par . .7,033/Par 72 Walsh’s Home Phone . .(850) 385-8466 be recognized as a campus Affiliation . .NCAA Division I leader in terms of its ethics, Walsh’s E-Mail Address . Jones will count on the continued strong play of all five players with Mosley and Adcock standing out as the Seminoles’ top returning players.Mosley and Adcock played in nine tournaments each while shooting a combined 16 rounds of par or better,34 rounds with scores of 75 or better and averaging fewer than 74.00 strokes per round. Both play- ers will have to emerge as team leaders and continue to improve on their stroke averages for the Seminoles to climb into the national rankings. Mosley,a junior, led the Seminoles with a career-low 73.76 average last year and played in nine of 12 tournaments as he re-solidified his position in the starting lineup.A regular starter as a freshman,Mosley redshirted in 2002 to work on his mechanics and has benefited tremendously from that sea- son away from competition. “Rusty is a talented ball striker and an outstanding putter,” said Jones.“The key for Rusty will be for him to learn to hit dif- rey Jones,in his first season as the ferent types of shots in competition and to trust his natural head coach at Florida State, enters the ability to execute under pressure.” 2003-04 season looking to return the Adcock,Florida State’s most surprising player in 2003, golfing spark to the Seminole program.
