By doing so you affirm the immense value that athletics have in our community, and you honour the specific individuals that are recognized this evening for their contributions, their leadership, and ultimately, their sportsmanship. While a healthy sense of competition is a natural part of human instinct, our ability to cooperate, work constructively with others, and interact fairly while doing so, is learned behaviour. Sport allows us to develop and nurture these abilities that are so vital to us as social creatures and, at the same time, give us a vehicle for exercising and honing our competitive spirit. With that competitive spirit in great supply, along with the ongoing involvement of countless volunteers, corporate sponsors, builders, and participants (both professional and amateur), Calgary really is a centre of sporting excellence, and The Calgary Booster Club is committed to acknowledging that excellence! Our acknowledgements to sponsors, partners, sports media, leaders, officials, coaches and athletes are not only meant to say, “thank you for what you have done” but also, “thank you for your commitment to Calgary’s athletic future!” In that sense, we encourage all of you to reflect on your own participation in our athletic community, and endeavour to grow that involvement wherever and whenever you possibly can. Certainly, with planning for the 60th Sportsman of the Year Dinner already underway, we hope you’ll join us again next year for that milestone, and would ask that you keep in mind, in the meantime, potential nominees for those awards. Collectively, you have the ability to inform our organization who the leaders of sport are in our city. You decide who deserves recognition for their accomplishments and years of service. Once again, please accept our most sincere gratitude for attending tonight’s presentation to express your congratulations to our Honoured Athletic Leaders, the Male and Female Athletes of the Year, and our 59th Sportsman of the Year. And not least of all, thank you for helping The Calgary Booster Club continue to “Develop and Encourage Athletic Endeavour.” congratulations to all athletes The Calgary Winter Club is proud to have supported amateur sports for the past 50 years!
