Pierce holding garden hoe and bear skin) - Here we have a photo of Mrs. E.A. Pierce of Welches, Oregon. Mrs. Pierce is seventy-two years old and in the photo she's holding a hoe in her right hand, and the pelt of a large bear. And here's the story, relayed to us by Mr. Fred Lockley of Portland, Oregon. Mrs. Pierce was hoeing in her garden, minding her own business.
