Dear Customer, Welcome to our special double-catalogue edition for the Autumn! Along with this usual monthly listing (prices valid until 28 November with the exception of the Warner boxset offer), you will also find a 16pp catalogue devoted to DVDs and Blu-rays, which will remain valid until we close for Christmas. There are in fact around 2,500 DVD and Blu-ray titles reduced altogether, but you will appreciate that we don’t quite have enough room for them all inside 16 pages. The complete listing can be found on our website, or alternatively you are welcome to apply 20% discount to any of the labels detailed in the front of the separate Autumn DVD and Blu-ray Sale listing. We have chosen a title from Signum as our Disc of the Month for October. You may have heard that Signum recently won Gramophone’s coveted Label of the Year Award for 2017 and, aside from any titles released in October, we are pleased to be able to offer a discount of 30% on any of their titles until the end of October. A full listing can be found online. Our chosen disc is new from The Gabrieli Consort and Paul McCreesh and features wonderful partsongs by composers such as Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Grainger and Howells. See below for more information. There seems to be a plethora of new releases from high-profile singers this month: Rolando Villazon and Ildar Abdrazakov duet on DG; Jonas Kaufmann, Christian Gerhaher and Juan Diego Florez all present solo recitals on Sony; Philippe Jaroussky, Marianne Crebassa and Angela Gheorghiu appear separately on Warner/Erato; and Barbara Hannigan offers us a stunning programme of Berio, Berg and Gershwin on Alpha (‘Crazy Girl Crazy’ - not to be missed!). Great value boxsets continue to afford record labels the opportunity to dig into their rich archives - this month sees collections of recordings from The Amadeus Quartet (DG), Paul Badura-Skoda (turning 90 in October, see both DG and Sony/RCA), Murray Perahia (Sony), Mady Mesple (Warner), Christian Ferras (Warner) and Regine Crespin (Warner). Sony have also gathered together Teodor Currentzis’s performances of Mozart’s Da Ponte operas with MusicAeterna - highly recommended if you haven’t yet had the chance to explore them. New special offers include titles from Harmonia Mundi, the complete Alpha catalogue, and a huge range of boxsets from Warner Classics and Erato. Hopefully something for everyone! Benefitting from the jet aeroplane and the record industry’s ability to reach out to the world, they dominated chamber music making for nearly 40 years. But concert tours are only successful if reviews are ecstatic and audiences delighted: they both were. The Quartet (who styled themselves ‘The Wolf-Gang’) roved the world, argued, celebrated and worked like no other group, and changed not a single member: Norbert Brainin, Siegmund Nissel, Peter Schidlof and Martin Lovett had a recording career from 1951 to 1987, ending only with the death of Peter Schidlof in 1987. These 70 CDs – presenting almost their entire discography, together with distinguished and extensive presentation – form one of the most extensive chamber music sets ever created, and stand as eloquent testimony to their thoughtful musicianship, technical calibre and to the immense esteem in which the world held them. The Paul Badura-Skoda Edition £68.95 DG 479 8065 (20CD) available at £62.95 until 27/10 To celebrate his 90th birthday, Paul Badura-Skoda has curated this selection from his Westminster recordings. In the 20 discs included here are concertos, solo and chamber works where we witness the artistic integrity of an artist who is as celebrated for his technical abilities as he is for his scholarly interpretations. Newly remastered from the original tapes, we are afforded a fresh evolution of these rare gems. Includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Franck, Haydn, Liszt, Mozart, Ravel, Rimsky-Korsakov, Schubert, Schumann, Scriabin, J Strauss II, Tchaikovsky and Weber. 3 PRIORITY NEW RELEASES Sony, RCA and DHM L’Opera Brahms Beethoven Bach, JS French arias by Berlioz, The Piano Trios The Piano Trios Brandenburg Concertos Bizet, Gounod, Lalo etc Ma, Ax, Kavakos Schnyder Trio Berliner Barock Solisten, Kaufmann, de Billy £12.50 £13.95 Goebel £10.95 88985 407292 (2CD) 88985 445822 (3CD) £12.50 88985 390762 88985 361112 (2CD) Schubert Handel Mozart Brahms Die schone Mullerin Cantatas, Chaconnes, Arias Symphony no.2, Tragic Ov, Gerhaher, Huber Hornpipe etc Florez, La Scintilla, Minasi Academic Festival Ov £10.95 Perl, Mields, La Folia £10.95 Deutsche KP Bremen, P Jarvi 88985 427402 £10.95 88985 430862 £10.95 88985 405322 88985 459462 Also available 88985 482462 Glass Jane (OST) Glass £10.95 88985 480742 Bach, JS Goldberg Variations (1955, remastered edition) Gould £6.95 Sony Opera Reissues 88985 470392 Donizetti Lucia di Lammermoor 2CD Pons;Tucker;Cleva £13.95 88985 470342 Donizetti Gemme di Vergy 2CD Caballe;Queler £13.95 88985 470422 Mozart The Impresario Grist;Raskin;McKern;Previn £8.95 88985 470322 Orff Catulli Carmina Blegen;Kness;Ormandy £8.95 88985 436162 Puccini Il Tabarro Domingo;Price;Milnes;Leinsdorf £8.95 88985 470352 Rossini Tancredi 3CD Horne;Palacio;Weikert £14.95 88985 470362 Schreker Irrelohe 2CD de Vol;Pederson;Zednik;Randova;Gulke £13.95 88985 470382 Tchaikovsky Pique Dame 3CD Ochman;Mazurok;Evstateiva;Toczyska;Tchakarov £14.95 88985 434852 Verdi Aida 2CD Domingo;Price;Bumbry;Leinsdorf £13.95 88985 470412 Weinberger Schwanda the Bagpiper 2CD Prey;Popp;Jerusalem;Wallberg £13.95 Mozart Schubert Murray Perahia The Da Ponte Opera Boxset: The Complete Piano Sonatas Complete Analogue Recs 1972-80: Le nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan tutte, Badura-Skoda Bartok, Beethoven, Chopin, Don Giovanni £34.95 Mendelssohn, Mozart and Schumann MusicAeterna, Currentzis 88985 395492 (12CD) Perahia £69.95 £46.95 88985 413432 (9CD) 88985 416702 (15CD) 4 PRIORITY NEW RELEASES Naxos at £7.95 each (except where stated) due 13 October Prokofiev Saint-Saens Brian Rossini Symphony no.7, Works for Cello and Orchestra Symphonies 8, 21 & 26 Demetrio e Polibio Lieutenant Kije Suite etc inc Cello Concertos New Russian State SO, Mchedlishvili, Yaroyava, Sao Paulo SO, Alsop Schwabe, Malmo SO, Soustrot Walker Virtuosi Brunensis, Acocella 857 3620 857 3737 857 3752 866 0405-06 2CD - £15.95 857 3546 Bizet Carmen Suites, L’Arlesienne
