Deadline for the Parish Pump is STRICTLY 15th of every month The Mel Bar Relax and wind down at the Mel Bar, Millennium House 3 From the Editor Another sad blow to our community life (see opposite). Coming so soon after we lost Ruth Wilson makes it especially hard. Two wonderful women and two great workers for the public good. Although something of a late convert, Steph became a great supporter of the All Being Well gym and she will be greatly missed there too. Apparently, March 1st is the meteorological start of Spring, and yet March brought us just about every kind of storm except a meteor storm. And that’s all I have to say on the subject of meteorology. I’m not in the least bit superstitious of course, but... well... you know… you can’t be too careful! A very happy Easter to you all. She was a friend to me and my family for many years, but most of all I think she was a friend to this Parish. She was involved in Pensilva players with her late husband Don and her daughters Fiona and Susi. Then when Don died she moved to Callington for a while, but then came home to Pensilva and became a member of St.Ive Parish Council. She was a very active councillor and took her position of Chairman very seriously, then she was elected to Cornwall Council where she represented this constituency for four years until loosing her seat last May. While on the County Council she worked hard to do her best for this Parish and was always available to her electorate. Even the day before she died she was considering joining the Parish Council again. She believed in this parish, this county and this country. She fought hard for Brexit and unfortunately won’t be here to see it achieved. Our thoughts are with her daughters, son in-law and grandchildren. So in her memory let’s see what we can all do to help our parish, give a little of our time and effort and perhaps we can all be proud to live in the parish that Steph cared so much about. Steph's funeral will be held at Glynn Valley Crematorium at 4.30pm on Monday 9th April. Steph loved colour so not too much black please. Print COMMUNITY COFFEE SHOP in MILLENNIUM HOUSE PENSILVA THE COFFEE SHOP IS NOW OPEN AT THE FOLLOWING TIMES: MONDAYS 10.00am - 1.00pm TUESDAYS 9.00am - 1.00pm WEDNESDAYS 9.00am - 12 noon FRIDAYS 9.00am - 12 noon 6 Parish Council Chairman’s Column It is with great sadness that I heard of the sudden death of Steph McWilliam. She had done a great deal for the parish, both as a Parish Councillor and as a Cornwall County Councillor. She will be greatly missed. On a happier note it is nice to welcome Jenny Hoskin as our new Parish Clerk, she seems to be settling in well, and if anyone has any Council problems she will be available for the public to raise them with her from 1000 - 1200 on a Wednesday, in the Parish office at Millennium House. Car parking around the Parish is again causing complaints to councillors, mainly because of restricting access through some roads, but also parking close to junctions, which restricts the vision of motorists trying to exit safely. Please park on your drive if at all possible, or as close to the kerb as you can, and park away from junctions to allow safe entry and exit from junctions. As part of our continuing volunteer clean up around the Parish, we are hoping to organise a tidy up of the cemetery in the near future, so watch out in next month’s pump for more details of a spring tidy up. As the days get longer and more people are out and about walking, they are noticing and complaining that cleaning up after dogs is still a problem. I know it’s only a few that don't, but I would remind everyone that Cornwall Council has recently increased the penalty for not cleaning up after your dog to a £100 on the spot fine and £1000 for repeat offences!! I hope everyone has a nice Easter break and that the weather is good to us. Pete Haimes 7 Received from Cllr. Marlene Carr on behalf of the Parks and Open Spaces Committee of St Ive Parish Council. DOG WATCH After so many months of really wet and windy weather, what a pleasure it was to enjoy a few days of cold but sunny days we had late in February, seeing spring flowers emerging and people walking their dogs on fairly dry lanes, roads and pathways. Sadly, this pleasure was well and truly spoiled by the amount of dog mess on roads, pavements and verges around the village. We are lucky enough to have several accessible dog bins but if not, is it too much to ask that owners dispose of the bags at home? We class ourselves as dog lovers but sadly this does not seem to apply when it comes to taking responsibility of picking up dog poo or if they do, somehow find delight in decorating the hedges by hanging the poo bags on the branches!!! Are dog owners not aware of potential health issues transferred to humans (children in particular) which can cause some serious results? Dogs are not grass eaters as are cattle, sheep and horses.
