But there will be directional signs near and at the entrances of the City Hall. Octopus Card Apart from cash payments, you can also pay for your ride of public transport by the Octopus Card—a smart magnetic card that stores money value for easy payment processing. Most local riders use it because of its convenience and wide applicability. It can be used in supermarkets, convenience stores, fast-food outlets, etc. You can buy an Octopus Card at all MTR stations (customer service counter) at HK$150 each. HK$50 is the deposit, and the rest becomes value stored. When you are departing Hong Kong, simply return the card to an MTR customer service counter and get your deposit back minus a $9 administration fee. Simultaneous interpretation from English to Chinese (Putonghua) and vice versa will be provided for the Technical Sessions. *During the week, an LED display located near the registration desks will be showing the most up-to-date programme and other important announcements of the day. Page 4 of 9 Registration Upon arriving at the Low block, City Hall on Monday morning, you should sign in at the registration desk at the Low Block foyer. Any outstanding payments for registrations will be taken on-site in cash in Hong Kong dollars. The registration desk will open from 8:30 to 17:30 throughout the 5-day event, except on Wednesday afternoon where cultural tours are scheduled. To speed up the registration process, please bring your confirmation of booking (sent via email) with you. You will then collect your name badge (which is necessary to gain access to all sessions), tickets for social events, as well as a Congress bag containing the preprint, the programme, a special edition of Studies in Conservation, an information pack and souvenirs. Social Programme Receptions All delegates and their companions are welcome to join the evening receptions on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. No admission tickets are required. Shuttle bus service will be provided and set off from the City Hall at around 17:45. Cultural Tours For delegates who have pre-registered for a tour on Wednesday afternoon, the selected tour will be displayed on their badges. Please gather at the assembly point outside the Low Block foyer at 13:30 on Wednesday. Congress Dinner & Post-Congress Excursions These are optional events that require online registration and payment in advance. Admission tickets for these events will be issued at registration desks. Please remember to bring along your ticket when attending the event. You may also join the Congress Dinner ($780) or the 1-day excursion to Lantau Island ($650) by making cash payment at the registration desks in Hong Kong dollars. Dinner Venue: Jumbo Floating Restaurant Technical Programme Please check out details of the paper sessions on the Congress website. The following reminders are intended only for paper and poster authors presenting at the Congress: Page 5 of 9 Speaker’s Preparation Room Speakers are strongly advised to submit their PowerPoint files via email ([email protected]) before 14 September. If you could not make it, please proceed to the help desk located outside the Theatre (1/F, Low Block). Our staff will guide you to deposit your presentation files in the Speaker Preparation Room. Please be sure to complete this step at least 30 minutes before your presentation session begins. Poster Display A selection of 45 posters and 20 student posters will be displayed in the Exhibition Hall (1/F, Low Block) adjacent to the Congress Theatre. After signing in at the foyer on 22 September, Monday before 10:00, poster presenters should then go upstairs to the Exhibition Hall to deposit your final poster. You do not need to bring in fixing material or tools as there will be Congress staff to assist in poster mounting. Note: All presentation files and posters should be prepared according to the guidelines we have issued to you earlier by email. If you are uncertain about this, or should you have any technical requests or inquiries, please inform Casey Liu ([email protected]) as soon as possible. Refreshment Breaks & Lunch Light refreshments and coffee/tea will be served during the morning and afternoon breaks outside the Exhibition Hall (1/F, Low Block), where the trade fair and poster display will be held. Meals are NOT included in the registration fee but a food kiosk selling light bites and snacks will operate from 12:15 till the end of lunchtime daily throughout the Congress week in the Exhibition Gallery (7/F, High Block). Free Internet Express Terminals are available at the City Hall Public Library on 6/F, High Block. Each session lasts for 15 minutes. Outside the Congress venue If you have a smartphone and need 3G data during your stay in Hong Kong, you may consider buying a temporary pre-paid mobile SIM card with data roaming service from convenience stores upon arrival at the Airport. Please click here for more information. Meanwhile, you may need to find out in advance if your mobile handset can support a foreign SIM card. Your regional network provider should be able to assist you. Printing & Photocopying Facilities Printing facilities and self-service photocopiers are available at the City Hall Public Library on 6/F and 9-11/F High Block respectively. Service charges apply. Insurance The congress registration fee does not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that all participants take out appropriate travel and medical insurance before departure. General Enquiries A designated enquiry counter will be set up in the Foyer on Monday, 22 September. For the rest of the Congress week, please approach the registration desks for assistance. Enquiries regarding items lost or found can be made at the registration desk. To minimise losses, please ensure that your belongings are not left unattended in any of the session venues. Banks & ATMs The Hong Kong dollar is pegged to the US dollar at about US$1 = HK$7.8. You may exchange Hong Kong dollars at the Airport, local banks and currency exchange shops.
