Dystopian Literature All in all, we’re just another brick in the wall… Objective: At the end of this lesson, students will be able to distinguish the difference between a utopia and a dystopia. Students will be able to identify 3 characteristics of a dystopian society and cite evidence from a movie clip to support their answer. Essential Questions….. ● How much should the government be able to control your individual rights for the benefit of society? ● Could something intended for the good of society really be bad? ● What makes an ideal society? ● Can one person’s influence make a difference? ● What are dystopia and utopia and their relationship to science fiction? What is “utopia?” Talk with your elbow partner about the following questions: What do we know about Have you ever heard of a Utopia? Utopian Society? What is a Utopia? ● A place, state, or condition that is ideally perfect in respect of politics, laws, customs, and conditions Is this such a thing as a “utopia?” YES NO What is dystopia? ● What is a dystopia? ● How do you think it it similar to a utopia? What is “dystopia?” Answer the following questions: Using what you know about How do you think dystopia is utopia, what do you think similar to utopia? dystopia means?
